The Position

The Family Support Services (FSS) program is growing and we are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team! The FSS Patient and Family Care Advocate will work collaboratively with parents, medical personnel, and public and private agencies to guide families in overcoming obstacles to family wellness and self-sufficiency. The Family Advocate will equip families with the skills and knowledge needed to overcome sources of stress, strengthen resilience, and lessen the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through trauma informed interventions and support. The ideal candidate is solution-focused, collaborative, and flexible. Services are provided as needed in the home, community, and health care setting. Experience working in health care settings is highly desirable but not required.

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a liaison between families, health care providers, and community-based organizations to decrease sources of stress and to promote resilience and family wellness.

• Build relationships with families by using assessment skills and screening tools to determine appropriate services.

• Support families by providing case management, referral linkage, and information services to support access to community resources.

• Educate families on the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences and use the Protective Factors Framework to guide appropriate trauma-informed interventions.

• Maintain up-to date documentation and case files through the agency database.

Employment Standards:

• Ability to have a warm and empathetic interpersonal style to establish trusting relationships with children, parents, health professionals, and community organizations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or related field is required.

• Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and Spanish required.

• Ability to receive an annual flu vaccination, as required to work in a medical setting.

• Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of family stability resources.

• Must have the ability and desire to work with families and children of all cultures and backgrounds.

• Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

• This position is part-time with the potential for full-time opportunities. (Limited benefits, 403(b) retirement plan, sick, and vacation time available for part-time positions.)

• Pay starts at $19.50/hour

Our programs, which serve more than 25,000 people annually, combine clinical expertise, bilingual and bicultural staff, and close collaboration with other agencies. At FSA, all services are provided free or on a sliding fee/donation scale and no one is denied assistance because of an inability to pay.
