Support and Outreach – Full Time or Part Time/Hourly

Wage Range $15.50 - $21.50

What do Support and Outreach Staff do?

1. Host drop-in hours; greeting, welcoming, and supervising youth while utilizing both strengths-based and harm reduction approaches.

2. Maintain a controlled and safe environment for youth, assist with cleaning and organization of work space.

3. Work with clients to identify service plan goals around; independent living skills, employment, education, housing, relationship skills, physical/mental health, etc. and substance abuse education.

4. Assist with meeting basic needs of youth without judgment or personal opinion, building positive relationships to encourage continued progress on goals.

5. Maintain good knowledge of community resources and provide youth with referrals to other agencies for services when appropriate.

6. Perform presentations to other community members/agencies to increase awareness and community understanding of S.O.S.

7. Perform daily street outreach, establishing positive rapport with youth and inviting them to receive drop-in services.

8. Provide on-going case management services to transitional aged youth.

9. Support the daily collection and tracking of statistical data to be used for completing programmatic required reports.

10. Maintain complete, accurate, up-to-date client files.

11. Keep confidential information and maintain appropriate professional and ethical boundaries with youth.

12. Participate in staff meetings and training events.

13. Positively collaborate with the residential staff at Noah’s Anchorage.

14. Keep supervisors informed of all legal, ethical, and clinical issues related to work.

15. All other duties as assigned.

What we look for in Support and Outreach staff.

College degree preferable or at least 2 years of experience with at-risk youth

Must be at least 21 years of age

Must have a valid California driver’s license and proof of current car insurance

Must be able to pass the following background checks: Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index, and DMV

Ability to hold to high levels of confidentiality; must model the YMCA six pillars of character (caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; bilingual capabilities a plus

Strong knowledge base and practice of independent living skills

Ability to relate with diverse populations; works well with the public and community partners

Ability to work with limited supervision

Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Requires light physical activity such as phone and computer work.

May require walking, driving, light lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending.

RETIREMENT: The Channel Islands Association pays 8% of the candidate’s salary to the Y Retirement Fund, once eligibility requirements are met.
