Economic Development Administrator

Job Description

Reporting to the President/CEO, the Economic Development Administrator is responsible for the following:

Primary Duties:

Provides economic development services designed to attract new business activity, retain/expand existing business, and support the development of new start-up businesses.

Work with local and regional economic development practitioners (including commercial real estate brokers, commercial developers, property owners, city/county/state officials, etc.) to identify opportunities for new business development.

Solicit, track, and facilitate responses/proposals related to prospective new business opportunities.

Maintain a roster of available properties that could be used to locate new businesses.

Support the retention/expansion of existing businesses by serving as local business liaison, connecting businesses to community resources and relationships that will foster their economic success. Tasks to included but not limited to:

Conduct one-on-one business meetings, as needed, to examine on the needs of the business community.

Send out welcome packet for new business license owners containing listing of community contacts and resources.

Work with SBA, SCORE, etc. to provide educational opportunities for businesses through dissemination of information, monthly business luncheons/workshops as opportunities become available.

Provide connectivity with city staff and/or Council for maximum efficiency during the opening process.

Work directly with educational institutions regarding workforce needs.

Advocate for a vibrant and economically attractive local business environment

Represent the community at business attraction events and at relevant economic development industry events.

Drafts reports and makes presentations to Mayor and Council and other groups as required.

Provide business assistance services as needed to community members, assist in navigating city processes.

Qualifications:

Previous Economic Development, marketing and public relations experience preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and has the ability to work with the public and private officials.

Sound personal judgement, discretion, and credibility

Creative problem-solving skills along with solid consensus building and entrepreneurial skills

Broad general knowledge of business and government coupled with the ability to handle a variety of projects while meeting deadlines.

Must be computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; capability to learn industry specific database, type minimum 45 WPM.

General knowledge of building and zoning codes preferred

Availability and willingness to work flexible schedule, some evenings required. (i.e. attend City Council Meetings, other organizational functions).

Self-motivation and ability to work toward objectives with minimal supervision.
