Assistant Vineyard Manager
Award winning Bien Nacido Vineyards is seeking an experienced individual to assist in the supervision of all vineyard production operations and related activities, including supervision of vineyard foremen, vineyard workers, labor contractors, and staff. The individual should have an appropriate college degree in agriculture or a related major.
Under the direction and supervision of the Vineyard Manager, the duties of the Assistant Vineyard Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensure the day-to-day vineyard operations are completed safely and efficiently within production and quality goals.
Assign, coordinate and supervise activities of multiple labor crews, crew leaders, equipment operators, irrigators, and other related personnel.
Work with management team, including Vineyard Manager, and PCA, to ensure that fruit quality and production goals are achieved.
Management of workforce training and performance.
Implementation of safety and compliance programs.
Develop and implement farm plan and work schedules (seasonal, monthly, weekly, daily) and coordinate with other members of management.
Develop and implement pest control, irrigation, and fertilizer schedules
Ensure accurate and timely data collection to provide crop estimates.
Plan for and obtain necessary tools, equipment, vehicles, and/or supplies for each activity; coordinate this with other members of management.
Be active in employee training programs.
Assist other members of management with preparation and monitoring of budgets.
Responsible for accurate and timely submission of employee time cards.
Direct communication with all field staff.
Implement the company's policies, safety requirements established by law and the company, and enforce safety work rules at all times.
Responsible for keeping other members of management informed of pertinent information regarding the vineyards.
Assist with hiring vineyard workers.
Requirements:
Appropriate college degree in agriculture or related field and at least 2 year relevant industry experience - preferably in Viticulture or Agri-business Management.
Bilingual in English and Spanish, both oral and written.
Active PCA license with appropriate categories is a plus.
Must have proven ability to supervise employees in regards to meeting quality, production and safety standards established by the company.
Must have experience in operation of farm equipment, sprayer calibration, irrigation systems, and pump stations.
Must have valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Must be able to hike uneven ground in vineyards, work in all weather conditions year-round, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and work flexible schedules (including early daytime, evenings, and weekends).
Skills:
Basic computer skills, be able to use Word and Excel.
