Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

The Rig Hand works under the direction and supervision of the Rig Operator. The rig operator and 2 rig hands are part of a 3 man crew that service existing oil & gas wells. The rig operator, also known as crew chief, is responsible for the safety of the crew and equipment.

Rig hand duties include but are not limited to

• Must always be aware of his surroundings and work safely at all times.

• Must always wear proper issued PPE

• Screw and unscrew casing, tubing, and sucker rods, using hydraulic equipment known as rod and tubing tongs. They may also be required at times to perform this task manually by using large pipe wrenches.

• Be able to lift and stack sucker rods and tubing which involves heavy lifting.

• Work both on the floor as well as able to climb and work in the derrick platform. A typical derrick height is 60’ but some drilling rigs can reach 90’ in height.

• Able to stand and bend for long periods of time during work

• Dig holes and manually screw in anchor points for rig tie down.

• Be familiar and able to use basic hand tools, such sledge hammers, pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, box end wrenches, etc.

• Move tubing and sucker rods to and from trucks, using crane trucks, motorized lifts, or by hand.

• Keep pipe deck and main deck areas clean and tidy.

• Cut down and remove trees and brush to clear drill sites, to reduce fire hazards, and to make way for roads to sites.

• Capable of driving large truck that may be loaded with tools.

• Possess a great personality and positive attitude towards his peers.

• Have a flexible schedule if enough notice is given to work overtime, weekends and nights.
