Materials Handler
JOB SUMMARY: This position is a critical component of materials control as it relates to meeting company standards of quality and on time delivery. This function is primarily responsible for on-site stock accuracy through inventory management best practices, ERP transaction accuracy, and physical handling of material. Materials handlers can be assigned to shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations to facilitate the accurate and efficient flow of goods from the point of receipt, between all inventory sites and departments, through outbound shipping activities.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
Materials Handler 1 is the entry-level into the warehouse support series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents with basic warehouse skills and experience learn Trust Automation’s practices and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.
Materials Handler 2 is the mid-range of the Materials Handler series. Materials Handler 2’s have demonstrated they have gained the knowledge, skill and experience to work under limited supervision.
Materials Handler 3 is the most experienced level in the Materials Handler career series. Materials Handler 3’s are self-directed and operate with a high level of independence and decision making.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: all possible activities for level 1 to 3)
Recording and Processing Inbound/Outbound Shipments: (Shipping & Receiving)
Process receipt of purchase orders (PO) and packing slips (PS) using the computerized ERP system
Maintains organized hard copy records of PS, certificates of conformance, etc. as required
Ensures specifications, quantity, and quality of orders match PO or PS requirements
Conducts initial product quality inspection; routes material to inspection area as required
Determines best shipping method based on customer needs to include speed, carrier, and any HAZMAT, FRAGILE, or insurance requirements
Prepares items for shipment according to packaging instructions, industry best practices, or carrier requirements
Process and verifies accuracy of carrier shipping paperwork requirements
Arranges carrier pick-up and drop-off
Makes intra-company deliveries
Maintaining Inventory (Warehouse Operations)
Unpack and route materials to appropriate departments and stock locations
Pull parts from stock and verify accuracy to fulfill work order (WO) requirements
Issue materials to WO using the ERP system
Conduct periodic and annual cycle counts
Maintain accurate stock levels at all times; notify management if adjustments are required
Customer Service
Proactively monitor shortage report for incoming materials; fills shortages when available
Work to provide answers regarding the movement or content of orders; coordinates closely with buyers, management and sales to ensure satisfaction
Primary point of contact for shipping damage claims
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED.
Be organized with a strong attention to detail.
Experience with computer software, data entry,
Forklift experience.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while adapting to frequent changes.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to spend workday standing, walking, stooping, and climbing stairs.
Use hands to handle material, work with office equipment, or manufacturing tools
Reach both horizontally and overhead
Talk and hear in an environment with moderate noise
Clear vision and ability to adjust focus
Strength and stamina to routinely pick up, push and move heavy objects safely.
Working conditions are normal for a product engineering and manufacturing environment.
Work may require weekend and/or evening work including occasional travel away from home.
