The Position:

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with experience working with at-risk populations to join the Family Support Services (FSS) team! The Family Support Services Educator will collaborate with clients, school administrators, and public and private entities to support couples and individuals in establishing healthy marriage and relationship skills, reduce stressors in the home, and guide families in overcoming obstacles to self-sufficiency. The FSS Educator will focus on the parent child relationship and provide parenting services in-person or virtually. Through screening and assessment, education, case management, economic stability services, and service linkage, the FSS Educator will identify risks, promote strengths, and equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to establish healthy relationships leading towards greater family strength and stability. The classes the FSS Educator will support will be Forever Father, Healthy Relationships, Strengthening Families and Nurturing Skills.

Working with those impacted by trauma can be fulfilling and meaningful, yet simultaneously challenging, requiring attention to one’s self-care. FSA strives to be a trauma-informed and resilience-oriented organization, actively identifying and employing methods to support staff to embody a healthy and sustainable balance of care for others and themselves.

Sample of Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitate classes and workshops focusing on healthy relationships and nurturing parenting utilizing approved curriculum.

Coordinate classes with co-facilitator and other participating community partners.

Conduct outreach, recruitment, and manage participant waitlist.

Complete pre program evaluation to ensure the curriculum is tailored to the needs and identified risks of participants.

Participate in activities to evaluate the program’s effectiveness.

Demonstrate knowledge of local resources and provide information and referral when warranted.

Utilize assessment skills and screening tools to triage families and determine appropriate services (case management, information and referral, parent education, economic stability services). Work in collaboration with colleagues to provide a continuum of care.

Support participants in developing healthy relationship skills and positive parenting skills through the use of positive communication and understanding of youth developmental milestones.

Employment Standards:

Bachelor’s degree required in social work, child development, education, or other related field.

Bilingual in English and Spanish required.

Comfortable facilitating community workshops and classes.

Demonstrate knowledge of the following topics: parent education, developmental milestones, effective communication, overcoming obstacles to self sufficiency, conflict management, and stress management.

Familiarity with community resources and knowledge of family stability resources.

Computer and Internet literacy and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Proficient in Microsoft Office; can adapt to using various types of software.

Valid automobile insurance and a valid California Driver License are required.

Reliable transportation is necessary to travel throughout Santa Barbara County.

Classification, Hours and Pay Rate:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position, non-exempt, with benefits. (Benefits include: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts and 403(b) retirement plan. Vacation, holiday and sick leave also offered.)

Pay dependent on education and experience.
