JOB DESCRIPTION—PROGRAM SPECIALIST
SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for planning and implementation of program directives which meet agency regulatory standards and provide oversight of cultural proficiency and cultural responsibility to project services
Provide a safe and healthy environment for high school students
Complete and implement plan sheets weekly or similar documentation
Establish positive interpersonal relationship among all individuals in the program
Provide supervision of all project students
Use approved discipline techniques when dealing with a student’s inappropriate behavior
Consider each student in relation to his/her cultural and socioeconomic background, treating each student with dignity and respect
Record daily attendance and know the number, names and age of students in their assigned group at all times
Coordinate any food/snacks for student projects/field trips
Maintain Adult/Parents notes on progress, attendance and relevant information, ie; surveys
Assume daily responsibility without constant supervision
Display sound judgment in all situations
Exhibit self-control
Maintain regular contact with SMJUHSD liaison and provide monthly reports
Observe scheduled work hours by being punctual and prepared of all project staff
Maintain confidentiality of parents, students and staff
Function as a cooperative member of the team including school district personnel
Attend and Initiate regular staff meetings and agency training as required
Conduct project/student assessments as required
Recognize, document and take appropriate action of suspected child abuse and neglect,
Experience with National Compadres Network curriculums and be willing to receive training on the curriculum
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Ability to perform all job requirements satisfactorily and meet the Education/Experience, Personal Skills/Characteristics, Reasoning Ability, Physical Conditions, & Work Environment and Work ethics
Ability to use digital technology, ie; Zoom, etc.
Will need background check, CPR and First Aid Certification
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Associate Degree, High School Diploma or equivalent required, some education can be substituted for on a year per year basis, Bachelor Degree preferred
Other requirements as required by regulatory agencies
Minimum (5) years of experience working with youth or related field in non-profit setting
Bilingual/Bicultural required
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in writing and orally
Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to an emergency or a crisis situation
PERSONAL SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
High energy level
Resourceful and well organized
Strong commitment for doing what is right for students
Strong customer service skills
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Requires daily standing, sitting, bending and stooping
Requires normal range of hearing and vision
Requires the ability to lift 40 pounds
