About Us:
Angels Foster Care is a small, local, private non-profit foster family agency serving children 0-5, and their resource families (aka fosterĀ families) throughout Santa Barbara County and Southern San Luis Obispo County. Angels Foster Care social workers help infants, toddlers and preschoolers heal from early trauma by arranging critical developmental and health services and providing intensive resource family training and support. Our agency works with approximately 40 foster children, and their resource families, each year. Angels Foster Care families have provided safety, stability and nurturing care for more than 250 foster children since our inception in 2006.
About the Position:
The Angels Social Worker will provide case management for young foster children and foster care related counseling and support to their resource families. He or she will also assist in the screening, orientation and training of prospective resource parents and work as part of an interdisciplinary team to facilitate the best interests of each child.
General Information:
Full-time position
Primary work location is Orcutt, with frequent travel required throughout Santa Barbara County
Required to participate in after-hours on-call rotation as assigned
Supervision for licensure available
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree from an accredited graduate school in social work, counseling psychology or related field
Must meet all required health screening and criminal record clearances
Possess a valid California driver's license, car insurance and acceptable DMV record
Reliable source of private transportation
Responsibilities:
Assist with orienting, training and assessing prospective resource families
Act as a liaison with public and private agencies and various other community organizations
Facilitate the placement of children with resource families by coordinating with Santa Barbara County Child Welfare staff
Provide ongoing assessment of child and family needs and make appropriate referrals
Assist in arranging and/or supervising visits between birth family and child
Maintain accurate and thorough records of all services provided and documents all assessments, meetings, decisions and reports
Maintain regular, therapeutic contact with the child and resource family
Provide ongoing evaluation of approved resource homes, ensuring licensing regulations are met
Supervise and provide ongoing support for the resource parents
Knowledge required:
Social casework objectives, principals and methods
Socioeconomic and cultural factors that promote stable family life and understanding of the factors that affect family security
Laws, rules and regulations governing the operations of public social services agencies, Foster Family Agency homes (FFA) and adoptions
Knowledge of psychosocial and psychotherapeutic methods and sources
Skills:
Proficiency with computers
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Ability to establish rapport with applicants and to work with diverse populations including resource/adoptive families, birth families and extended family members
Excellent time management and work habits
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
