Program Director, Camp Chai Summer Day Camp 2019
The Jewish Community Center Sonoma County is a non-profit organization serving the cultural needs of the Jewish community and beyond. The JCCs Camp Chai has a long history serving the children and families of Sonoma County. Camp Chai is a warm, welcoming, traditional day camp focusing on Jewish cultural traditions as the central message of a fun, nature-based day camp experience. The day camp director will work closely with the Executive Director. Knowledge of Jewish culture is a must.
The Camp Chai Director is responsible for all aspects of a successful day camp experience. Including:
Outreach to camp families
Camp budget management
Schedule necessary meetings with Executive Director and camp staff prior to the start of camp
Work with the camp committee and recruit members
Camp publicity
Recruitment, training and supervision of camp staff
Programming and scheduling camp activities
Ensuring the safety and health of staff and campers
Purchasing and storage of camp supplies
Manage check in and check out of campers on a daily basis
Manage bus transportation including but not limited to; on bus activities, emergency supplies, parent communication, bus company communication
Daily communication with camp families
Emergency phone tree communication
Recruitment of community members to offer special programs
Set up and break down of camp. Clean and store camp materials after camp ends
Manage all site logistics of the camp location and location staff interactions
Send a camp survey to parents, staff, and campers for feedback and write a summary based on the results
Meet with Executive Director post-camp to discuss successes and challenges
Job requirements:
Education and work experience related to children age 5-18. Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions is a must. Experience with Jewish camps preferred. Candidate must have strong leadership and communication qualities and; the ability to multi-task, a flexible approach to the needs of campers, ability to respond to unexpected circumstances, ability to plan age-appropriate activities, an outgoing and friendly approach to campers and families, ability to manage a budget and the ability to work with JCC management.
