Tails of Terra Linda Pet Resort is looking for Full-time and Part-time Dog Handlers to ramp up for our busy summer season. Dog Handlers are responsible for a wide variety of tasks including managing groups of dogs, feeding, medications, grooming, and of course LOTS O CLEANING!
This role is not just playing with puppies and requires strict adherence to protocols and procedures to keep everyone (human and canine) safe, happy and healthy. Shifts start as early as 5am and as late as 10pm and it is physical so you will sleep well at night! Closing shift and weekends are a must.
Job Duties:
Careful and attentive supervision of groups of dogs in play yards, if qualified
Managing groups to play safe, have fun, and encourage appropriate behavior
1 on 1 dog handling, walking, and interactions
Feeding, medications, and bathing dogs
Laundry, dishes, lots and lots of cleaning to maintain our high standards
Feeding and cleaning condos for boarding cats
Documentation of daily processes and procedures such as meals, baths, etc.
Documentation of daily health and behavior of animals in our care including, but not limited to appetite, energy, relieving, and general appearance and attitude.
Interface with clients regarding their pets experiences and needs
Qualifications:
Caring and compassionate to animals and people
Reliable, trustworthy, and ethical
Hard working as this is a physically challenging position
Ability to learn, remember, and follow protocols in order to ensure safety for all
Willingness to operate with checklists, guidelines and procedures
Experience with animals (dogs preferred) in a volunteer capacity, work, or personally. Although having a pet dog is good, preference will be given to candidates who have more detailed experience with dogs (or horses) in some capacity.
Outstanding communication skills to document information as well as work within a team of people on a day to day basis
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and think quickly
Extraordinary attention to detail and thorough follow through
Team player, flexible and ability to remain poised in stressful situations
Previous experience in boarding/dog daycare or animal field highly preferred
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that MUST be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, employees may be regularly required to lift and or move up to 50 (fifty) pounds as well as bend, squat or stand for periods of time. Ability to work standing or sitting for periods of up to 8 hours at a time. Must be able to safely handle a variety of animals including large breed dogs, with varying strength and manageability. Ability to dress and groom professionally.
