Sisters of Mercy located in Burlingame, CA has an immediate FT opening for an Activity Coordinator at an assisted living facility. The Activity Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination and the implementation of the activity programs for Marian Life Center Residents. The programs shall be scheduled on a daily basis and shall make every effort to meet the comprehensive needs and interests of all the residents. Acts as a back-up driver for Sisters medical appointments as needed. This is a full time position to include a comprehensive benefit package on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment (medical, dental, vision, 403(b) with employer matching, accident insurance, AD&D coverage, life insurance, short/long term disability coverage.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Manages the operation of the Activity Department; develops and implements short & long term goals, objectives and strategies to ensure the provision of high quality person-centered and holistic programs.

2. Develops, plans and supervises a dual program of recreational and social activities designed to meet individual and group interests and physical and cognitive abilities of the residents. Interviews residents to obtain activity information. Involves residents in planning activity programs when possible. Evaluates each resident according to her background, interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for the purpose of planning a meaningful program. Works with consultants to monitor, change or adapt activity and exercise programs to meet the changing needs of the community. Locates, interviews and hires independent contractors for activity programming.

3. Participates in monthly Administrative Team meetings and House meetings

4. Orients and supervises volunteers.

5. Develops and distributes a Life Center Calendar of Events to the residents and departments. Adjusts activity calendar/changes as needed to accommodate unplanned events that arise (e.g., funerals, medical appointments, etc.)

6. Makes recommendations to Administrator for activities budget for supplies, equipment, food, trips, etc. Codes and submits monthly credit card statement and appropriate department invoices. Purchases and maintains Activity Department equipment and supplies appropriate to quality operations.

7. Participates in the rotation of the administrative on-call schedule for emergencies during evenings, weekends and holidays.

8. Meets with administrative and nursing personnel in planning activity programs. Schedules movies, plans parties (feast days, etc.) and is responsible for the coordination for the Christmas boutique. Works closely with Food Services and Environmental Services Supervisors to manage special event requests and set up.

9. Arranges transportation for field trips when necessary.

10. Provides written and/or oral reports of the program and activities to Life Center Administrator as required or requested.

11. Assists any residents that utilize social media programs to use security safeguards on those sites; also assists Sisters with figuring out their computers and cell phones as requested/needed.

12. Participates regularly in departmental meetings as scheduled.

13. Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information.

14. Participates (regularly) in personal professional development activities to maintain up to date knowledge of theory and practice. Attends in-service training programs.

15. Trains Transportation Coordinator and Driver on scheduling and fleet use/maintenance.

16. Maintains Life Center Emergency Supplies (including locating and comparing different meal sources for taste, number of choices, how long they last and costs).

17. Performs other duties as assigned by Administrator.

18. Performs other duties as assigned to assist with the safety of the Sisters of Mercy and their environment.

Position Qualifications:

Required

High School Diploma required.

Graduate of an AA program in Recreational Therapy and/or recipient of certification as Activity Professional preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years for elderly residents.

Experience with the geriatric population.

Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Freedom from use of illegal drugs and freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Successful completion of pre-employment requirements, background check and driving record.

Preferred

Understanding and appreciation of the traditions and cultures associated with the Sisters of Mercy.

Physical Requirements

Ability to use and push a wheelchair.

Must be able to read and distinguish small print.

Must have depth perception and be able to distinguish basic colors.

Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise.

Must be able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.

Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
