The Substance Use Research Unit in the Center for Public Health Research is looking for temporary, hourly, field recruitment research assistants to advance its goals to study and improve the health of people who use drugs and key populations at high risk for HIV. The recruitment assistant will provide a wide range of administrative research support to recruit diverse research study volunteers for multiple ongoing placebo-controlled pharmacologic trials under the research portfolio of an Assistant Professor at the Department of Community Health Systems at the University of California, San Francisco.
The Clinical Trials Recruitment and Research Assistant will work closely with a research team with a deep passion and commitment to finding novel, evidence-based interventions for substance use treatment and HIV risk reduction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Distribute and post flyers and recruitment materials of public health research studies to recruit diverse research volunteers and participants.
Identify venues and community based organizations for recruitment outreach and function as a recruitment liaison between organizations and research staff
Manage the identification, development and ordering of recruitment tokens (e.g., key chains, mints, condoms and lubricants, and other gift bags items for study branding).
Provide brief synopses of research study protocols to study participants and community partners.
Help administer brief behavioral surveys in the field to assess potential participant eligibility.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to youth, racial, ethnic, cultural, and sexual diversity is required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
Previous experience working with substance users and/or gay/bisexual men is preferred
Other Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal-communication skills.
Must be comfortable working with substance users community settings such as HIV testing sites, harm reduction programs, community based organizations, single room occupancies, campus clubs, LGBTQ programs, etc.
Candidate must have a flexible schedule, which includes the ability to work daytime hours, late nights and weekends.
