Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair legacy cable and new Fiber to the Home Internet (FTTH) systems for residential clients. Includes running and splicing coax cable and optical fiber, installing equipment like modems, ONTs, wireless routers, set-top boxes, and testing signals. This role requires strong technical skills for troubleshooting and repair of both Cable and Optical networks, the ability to work in various environments (indoors, outdoors, heights, crawlspaces etc.), excellent agility and ability to work with many various hand tools and test equipment, as well as good customer skills to explain services to clients. Key responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving service issues, performing installations and upgrades, and ensuring systems are functioning optimally.
Key responsibilities
Installation: Install and connect cable, internet, networking and phone services at customer locations, including setting up equipment like Modems, ONTs, routers and cable boxes.
Maintenance and repair: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair issues with existing cable and fiber systems, which may involve working on poles, in trenches, or in cramped crawl spaces.
Testing and configuration: Test signal strength, data transmission, and equipment to ensure optimal performance, and configure systems to meet customer needs.
System upkeep: Manage and maintain cable infrastructure, which can include running, pulling, splicing, and terminating cables (coaxial, fiber optic, etc.).
Customer service: Explain how to use equipment to subscribers, answer questions, and ensure customer satisfaction after installation or repair.
Safety and compliance: Follow safety protocols and industry standards, and properly maintain tools, test equipment and vehicle.
Required skills and qualifications
Technical skills: Proficiency preferred with various cables, connectors, and interface devices as well as general tools and test equipment including Voltmeter, Signal meter, light meter, etc.
Problem-solving: Advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose and fix technical issues efficiently.
Physical ability: Capable of working in diverse environments, including outdoors in various weather conditions and in confined spaces.
Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical information to clients who may not be tech-savvy.
Customer focus: A customer-centric approach to provide a positive experience.
Other requirements: A valid driver's license with good driving record, ability to pass drug screening, and criminal background check.
