Kirk Consulting, a land use planning firm located on the California Central Coast, is seeking a full-time position for a Planning Assistant /Building Permit Coordinator. The Planning Assistant / Building Permit Coordinator is an entry level position with the opportunity grow professionally within the company. Job responsibilities include preparing building permit/planning applications to be processed through City, County, and State jurisdictions. Other important functions include writing project descriptions, project research, development of site plans and other graphic related exhibits, and assistance with presentation materials for public hearings. The ideal candidate has the ability to review plans, reports and applications for completeness and compliance with established codes, ordinances, etc. and work closely with City/County staff in coordinating permit/planning submittals and requirements and facilitating the issuance of permits. The position requires someone that is highly organized, with the ability to multi-task and problem solve on a daily basis.
Knowledge and Skill Set:
Ability to collect, analyze and compile technical, statistical information pertaining to planning and zoning research.
Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photos and legal descriptions; interpret and apply ordinances, laws and policies.
Establish and maintain working relationships with clients, licensed professionals, and agency staff
Strong graphics skills required
Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Illustrator, AutoCAD, and other graphics related programs
Education and Experience:
MINIMUM BS/BA in Natural Resources Planning, City / Urban Planning or a closely related field
1 year of experience in the planning profession or a combination of both private and public sector experience is preferred but not required.

Hourly (TBD based on experience)
