Job Description:
Kirk Consulting, a land use planning firm located on the California Central Coast is seeking a full-time position for an Associate Planner. The Associate Planner performs a variety of complex land use planning assignments and will act as a project manager for various land use, environmental management, and construction related projects.
Functions:
Performs, manages, and completes large complex planning projects, permit entitlement process, research and analysis
Coordinates and prepares planning/building applications (Minor Use Permits, Conditional Use Permits, Feasibility Studies, Building Permits, etc.)
Ability to coordinate permit approvals required from state and federal agencies including the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Army Corp of Engineers and Coastal Commission
Review and evaluate project proposals against predetermined definitive standards and general performance objectives
Makes concise and professional formal and informal presentations of technical material
Works closely with other agencies
Prepares for and attends public hearings
Knowledge:
Knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to Land Use Planning, Zoning Ordinances, General Plan Elements, CEQA and NEPA
Skills:
Ability to collect, analyze and compile technical, statistical information pertaining to planning and zoning research.
Ability to read and interpret maps, aerial photos and legal descriptions; interpret and apply ordinances, laws and policies.
Communicates effectively in both oral and written form
Ability to establish and maintain work relationships with clients, developers and licensed professionals.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, AutoCAD, and other graphics related programs
Education and Experience:
MINIMUM BS in Natural Resources Planning, City / Urban Planning or a closely related field
At least 2 to 5 years of experience in the planning profession or a combination of both private and public sector experience is preferred
