Above Grade Engineering is an established, award winning firm with focus in multi-discipline engineering and land surveying. We strive to provide excellent customer service while delivering engineering services for public works, schools, residential and commercial developments, and mixed-use projects.
Our downtown San Luis Obispo office is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer or Designer to join our growing team. This position will frequently coordinate with the in-house design team, the client, other trades, and homeowners. On the job training available for continued professional development. Full time position with standard 40-hour work week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and draft code-compliant construction plans for power distribution systems, lighting and controls, fire alarm systems, emergency backup systems, controls, and communications systems
- Respond to plan review comments for projects in the agency-approval phases (plan revisions, coordination with other disciplines, and written responses)
- Perform Construction Administration duties for projects in active construction phases (RFI response, submittal review, job walks, etc.)
- Perform T24 energy compliance calculations to generate energy compliance forms
- Coordinate with power and telecommunication utility companies
- Create project specifications and specify electrical components and gear
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis (voltage drop, load, short circuit current, equipment protection, etc.)
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Communicate effectively within the Electrical Engineering Team
- Organize workload to meet project deadlines and manage multiple projects in various stages of design and construction
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Preferred)
- Licensed in Electrical Engineering in the state of California (Preferred)
- 2+ years’ experience in electrical design and project management (Required)
-2+ years’ experience with Project Management (Preferred)
- Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD software
- Experience preparing plans for city, county, and state agencies, including OSHPD, DSA
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including CA Title 24 (California Building, Electrical, Energy, Fire, and Green Building Codes), NFPA 72, and IES
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience in photometric modeling (Visual software)
- Experience in T24 Energy Compliance Calculations (Energy Pro software)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Attention to detail, problem solving, multi-tasking, and strong mathematics skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
