Position Summary:

Responsible for assisting in food preparation and service operation at 40 Prado. Food preparation, purchasing, sanitation, housekeeping, inventory, and recordkeeping. Supports CASLOs mission by preparing nutritious meals to clients, enabling them to be better prepared to gain self-sufficiency and re-entry into potential employment and housing opportunities.

Responsibilities & Duties:

1. Assists 40 Prado Food Production Supervisor with food purchasing and meal preparation. In the Supervisors absence prepares meals for 40 Prado and makes minor food purchases as necessary.

2. Assists in the development and maintenance of a weekly inventory for food, paper goods, and equipment. Assists with receiving and storage of food service supplies, ensuring storage under proper conditions.

3. Maintains ServSafe standards. Keeps the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition throughout food preparation; ensures the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned after meal service and maintains food in proper storage conditions.

4. Identifies appropriate clients to assist in kitchen preparation duties. Oversees their activities while in the kitchen.

5. Trains volunteers assisting in food preparation activities. Works with Volunteer Coordinator on monitoring and assessing volunteer activities associated with the kitchen.

6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements:

1. Experience as a cook or comparable experience in food preparation and quantity cooking for large groups OR AA/BA in Food Services or other comparable degree.

2. Must have knowledge of food service sanitation practices and the ability to implement and uphold all applicable sanitation standards. Must possess Food Safety Manager Certification.

3. Experience supervising others and maintaining the smooth and efficient operation of a large kitchen.

Other Requirements:

1. Must possess a moderate ability in arithmetic skills (i.e., fractions, multiplication, division, etc.).

2. Must possess the ability to keep records and to complete reports on time.

3. Must be dedicated to the principles and objectives of Homeless Services and CAPSLO.

4. Must have a valid California Drivers License and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout and proof of insurance is required.

5. Must pass health screening and TB skin test (or chest x-ray) prior to beginning employment.

6. Must maintain good grooming and personal cleanliness.

7. Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check, acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement, etc. A criminal history clearance is required within seven days of completing the Live Scan.

8. Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of ones duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices and act in such manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to ones self, fellow employees and children.

9. Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Position requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, bending. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Simple grasping and hand manipulation required as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.
