About Us:

Our office is a specialty medical practice consisting of three providers. Our providers render treatment at our office in San Luis Obispo, local outpatient care centers along the Central Coast, as well as four local hospitals.

The Position:

Our office has a need for a full-time Front Office / Authorizations Clerk for our busy office in San Luis Obispo. The ideal candidate must have the ability to move quickly from one task to another independently, be able to communicate effectively with peers, staff and supervisors, take instructions, comprehend and follow through with tasks effectively. Candidate must possess good verbal and written communications skills and the ability to read, write, comprehend and follow written and oral instructions. Computer literacy with the ability to type accurately at a moderate / fast pace, is highly desired.

Job Duties Include:

- Obtaining Authorization from PPO, HMO/Managed Care, Medi-Cal / CenCal carriers for patient care, both in the office and with outside specialists

- Verifying patient insurance eligibility, notating accounts with copay amounts, authorization needs, etc.

- Track Incoming Patient Referrals and log requests for additional information

- Processing Medical Records Requests (Transmitting and/or Requesting Necessary Records)

- Candidate will also serve as relief for the Patient Intake Specialist (Receptionist)

- Candidate may also be trained in simple back office duties (please note, the main job focus will be administrative, not clinical)

Job Requirements:

- At least two (2) years experience working in a clinical / office setting; and/or one (1) year experience processing authorization requests in a medical setting

- Candidate must be proficient at operating basic office programs / equipment (Computer, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Systems, Scheduling Software, Microsoft Office Programs, Email, Multi-Line Telephone, Fax Machine, etc)

- Experience / Familiarity with specialty medical practice extremely helpful

- Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking desired
