The Shop Manager is responsible for planning; organizing and assigning work to the employees under his/her supervision in a way that will result in quality work and meet required deadlines without sacrificing safety. The Shop Manager's supervision will result in quality work, efficiency, employee satisfaction, excellent communication, high morale, commitment, and teamwork. The Shop Manager is also responsible for preparing/verifying employee time cards; ordering parts/supplies; preparing reports; maintaining records; following safe work practices; and performing advanced rebuild and repair jobs. The Shop Manager will also be responsible for compliance with the BIT program for the Central Coast.
Key Qualifications
Knowledge of administration, supervision and management. Must be able to plan, allocate resources; coordinate people and equipment.
Strong time management, active listening, critical thinking and reasoning skills.
Ability to use good judgment when performing job duties and to maintain good working relationships with company employees and vendors.
The ability to identify when something is wrong or when a hazard is present. To recognize problems when they occur and to work toward the solution of those problems.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Knowledge of the operation of internal combustion and diesel engines and related power trains.
Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
Knowledge of servicing requirements and maintenance procedures for motor vehicles and tractors.
Knowledge and experience with acetylene and electric arc welding
Advanced mechanical ability and skills.
Knowledge of Cal OSHA safety regulations.
Basic computer skills and ability to use Outlook, Word, and Excel
Fluent in both English and Spanish.
Physical Environment/Requirements
Often working outdoors in extremes of heat/humidity/cold and other weather conditions
Exposed to dust, noise, gasoline, diesel fuel and solvents
Works with flammable and toxic materials
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Must be able to work long hours during harvest
Work is strenuous involving bending, stooping, awkward body positions
Walking on uneven ground
Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Good vision and hearing
Ability to work nights
Ability to work different shifts
Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE)
Ability to shift gears, depress pedals, turn knobs and levers, read gauges
Good finger dexterity
Firm hand grip
Repetitive arm and shoulder movement, above and below head level
Repetitive use of wrist and hands
Repetitive pulling, pushing and reaching
Experience Required
Minimum 5-10 years supervisory experience
Minimum 5 years mechanical repair experience
Education Required
High school diploma or equivalent + technical training
Intermediate computer skills
