The pharmacy typist/outreach (T/O) primary role is to enter prescriptions, generate compounding formulas, and engage in follow-up and outreach marketing communications to patients and prescribers. In addition, the role involves receiving and entering inventory into a software system, entering notes into patient profiles, preparing written communications, preparing mailings packets, and faxing information to prescriber offices.The T/O also ensures the typing areas remains clean and organized.

Job Skills and Requirements:

Customer Service: The pharmacy T/O works directly with patients, staff, and providers primarily on the phone, and occasionally in person. Having a good phone presence and eagerness to help identify and meet needs are critical to the job, as are being friendly and approachable.

Communication: The pharmacy T/O needs to have great listening and speaking skills, as they will relay messages from patients and prescribers, as well as relaying information from pharmacists. They must be able to work cooperatively with others.

Clerical Skills: the pharmacy T/O must be able to keep accurate records of materials coming in and going out of the pharmacy. In addition, they use the pharmacy computer system continuously, being efficient and accurate in applying their computer use skills.

Math skills: The pharmacy T/O must be comfortable using math, ratios, and calculating medication quantities (i.e. # grams per month to dispense) when processing prescriptions.

Physical: The pharmacy T/O must be able to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift and be able to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and lift 25 lbs. They must also be able to sit for the duration of a shift and engage in continuous computer typing and phone based work. Must be able to tolerate dust and cleaning while engaging in routine light cleaning duties.

Ethics: Pharmacy T/O must have the ability to work independently, and upon direction, to complete assigned tasks and position responsibilities. They must comply with attendance policies. They must comply with all applicable laws and rules relative to the practice of pharmacy and patient privacy.

Job Functions/Duties:

Be knowledgeable of retail pharmacy processes and compounding techniques.

Accurately enter prescriptions into a software system and generate compounding logs.

Answer the telephone in a friendly and efficient manner and effective take notes and messages.

Exhibit professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with patients and their health information.

Receive written prescriptions from a patient/customer and verify name, address, telephone number, date of birth, allergies, and insurance information.

Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment.

Perform light cleaning duties including, but not limited to dusting, sweeping, and cleaning windows.

Be knowledgeable about location of items in the store.

Keep floor clear of debris and spills.

Organize and stock retail products, chemicals, or supplies as directed by Pharmacist.

Promote for sale any current promotions to Customers.

Utilize and maintain equipment as required, reporting any equipment problems promptly.

Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise that weighs 25 lbs. and that occasionally weights up to 50 lbs.

Stand or sit at a workstation for duration of scheduled shift, which may be up to 8 hours per day.

Maintain punctual and regular attendance.

Complete all applicable department training programs.

Complete the HIPAA Privacy and Security training.

Comply with State and Federal drug laws as regulated by the State Board of Pharmacy, HIPAA, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Food and Drug Administration.

Perform all duties in accordance with Local, State and Federal regulations as they pertain to the Pharmacy.

Perform all duties in accordance with Company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards and all Local, State and Federal health and civil code regulations.

Pharmacy Typist/Outreach Job Description

The position is available immediately with work hours Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Healthcare benefits are not available, however, paid vacation is provided and most major holidays are observed. This person will be responsible for entering prescriptions, generating compounding formulas, conducting phone/fax outreach to offices, maintaining CRM software (Highrise HQ), and updating social media content for the business. The role also involves receiving inventory, entering notes into patient profiles, preparing written communications, preparing mailings packets, and faxing information. They will also have a role keeping the pharmacy clean and organized. For this position, confident phone communication and excellent pharmacy-oriented computer skills are a must. The ideal candidate will be a self-starting, task oriented employee who can stay focused and productive while handling multiple kinds of work responsibilities.
