Title: Materials Engineer- 41186-1 Location: Sunnyvale CA Duration: 1 year Contract Responsibilities:- In this role, you will work on test and characterization of materials in a laboratory setting. - Use fundamental materials engineering principles to design test setups to measure properties (mechanical, optical, chemical, and physical) of materials. - Prepare sample coupons for testing. - Work cross-functionally with engineers to design innovative characterization techniques - Analysis of test data and documentation of results - Present findings to materials engineers and help interpret experimental results. - Work with vendors to commission new laboratory equipment and to maintain and upgrade existing laboratory equipment - Work with vendors to evaluate new materials and run DOEs to improve material characteristics and processability. - Travel to vendor site for demo support and to understand manufacturing process.
Basic Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree in materials science, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field. -Microscopy (Optical and/or Electron) -Experience with preparing material sample coupons for testing -Experience with Matlab and/or Python programming. -Experience with data analysis (Excel, JMP, Minitab, etc.) -Experience with optical simulation software (ZEMAX, Essential MacLeod, etc.) or willingness to learn simulation software. -Project management, organization, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Knowledge of materials (plastics, composites, magnets, metal, alloys, and thin-films) - Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques: - FTIR and UV-VIS spectroscopy - SEM, EDS, XPS, XRF, Nanoindentation - Experience with Optical measurements and optical bench setups. - Experience working with vendors and suppliers for demo and experiment coordination. - Experience with setting up and maintaining databases.
