Perform venipuncture and finger sticks using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, blood culture, syringes and butterfly needles;
Communicate to patient/youth on the procedure to be done;
Collect and distribute specimens from patient/youth for laboratory testing per testing requirements;
Centrifuge, label and store blood samples for analysis by CCHCS Clinical Laboratory staff and/or external laboratory services providers;
Maintain inventory of supplies, stock supplies and hand trays;
Follow Institution written standard procedures or follow standard phlebotomy practices for positive patient/youth identification;
Perform other duties as required including assisting Nurse, Medical providers, and/or laboratory personnel in obtaining blood from “hard to draw patients” and maintaining appropriate records of specimen drawn;
Obtain blood specimens from patient/youth under variety of conditions;
Understanding and follow written and oral instructions;
Process non-blood clinical specimens accordingly for testing or send outs;
Perform test order recording into electronic system per procedure;
Handle and properly label bio hazardous specimens;
Maintain a clean, neat and safe work environment;
Work under stress, critical, unusual or dangerous situations where speed and attention to detail are important aspects of the task.
LICENSURE CREDENTIALS REQUIRED FOR THE CPT1 - PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN:
Valid California PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN – CPT1 License issued by California Department of Public
Health Board, Laboratory Field Services (CDPH-LFS)
1 year of CPT1 experience within the last 2 years
