You will be a leader in space innovation!Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, seeks a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing and Process Engineering team in Sylmar, California and work on projects covering the entire range of Spectrolab’s products: large and small solar cell assemblies and panels and arrays for a variety of space applications using the world’s highest efficiency solar cells, airborne searchlight and gimbal systems, and ground-based high-intensity illuminated test systems. During the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, a Spectrolab product became the first solar panel to be placed on the moon.Position Responsibilities:
Develop and implement production processes. Generate and maintain process documentation to ensure correct and consistent process application in production.
Participate in gated process and product reviews. Present Process Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis ( PFMECA ) along with process and training readiness information to both internal and external customers.
Lead and implement manufacturing plans and assist in developing and maintaining manufacturing training requirements .
Support definition of required tooling methodologies to ensure consistent process application.
Conduct producibility analysis and variation analysis to ensure that manufacturing process capability match requirements.
Assist in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and help document producibility best practices .
Identify leading edge technologies, materials, or process improvements and targeted automation to improve ergonomics, safety, cost, and schedule.
Develop and monitor Statistical Process Control ( SPC ) and Pareto analysis to identify and correct process drift and identify and implement continuous improvement to product and process.
Resolve technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost, or schedule.
All work is performed onsite in Sylmar, CA.This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
1+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
1+ years of experience implementing and monitoring statistical process controls.
1+ years of experience in assembly or mechanical work.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with solar cell assembly manufacturing (interconnection, cover glass, or encapsulation processes).
Experience with solar panel manufacturing processes.
Experience maintaining production procedure documentation.
Experience leading or participating in Lean events (AIW, 3P etc.).
Experience with Factory Automation business capabilities such as machine tool integration or fabrication.
Experience leading RCCA investigations.
Experience with Database design and development ( SQL preferred).
Experience as process trainer (maintain training records).
Familiarity with AS9100, NASA, AIAA, and other Aerospace standards.
Familiarity with wafer processing technologies (wet chemistry, photolithography, evaporative processing).
Experience in hands on troubleshooting and resolving of process, test, or software issues.
Typical Education/Experience:Associate (Level 2):Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Experienced (Level 3):Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification.Relocation:This position does not offer relocation.
