As a Director of Engineering in the Product Strategy & Operations team, you will lead the development efforts on the new Design System site and UI Component library in close collaboration with the Design team. You will work with all the Product Design, Product Management and Engineering teams across Palo Alto Networks to align everybody in a common design and UI technology direction. You will play a key role in driving design discussions and decisions and building a common UI Component Library that works for all Products. Our challenges are exciting and your impact is boundless. We are looking for a Director of Engineering who is passionate about building amazing front-end experiences and building products that are simple, easy to use and delightful. Should be experienced in building UI component libraries in React and Angular and well-versed in latest trends and technologies. You will build and lead the UI Engineering team and also hand-on contribute to each facet of the design and development process. You need to be a great creator, collaborator, communicator, and coach/partner for the design team.
You will:
Own the efficiency, growth, and delivery of a UI Eng team, making sure the team is as productive as possible to complete short term and long term objectives.
Build a new common UX design system and UI Component library in collaboration with design teams ensuring consistency and coherence across all products
Drive strategy & process to ensure the components works in different product environments
Demonstrate a deep knowledge of best practices and industry trends, while identifying unique, forward-thinking, and innovative opportunities.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, on-boarding and development of a high performing and creative engineering team.
Engage and collaborate with key Product Management and Engineering stakeholders to execute vision across the product organization.
Communicate, defend, and build consensus around common components and patterns.
Ensure UI Component library follows accessibility and inclusivity standards defined by WCAG, ADA, and MAS.
Strive to inspire the team and elevate the brand, creatively and consistently.
You are very hands-on and can manage a small team of nimble developers
You know your way around JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular
You enjoy collaborating with designers to build design systems and pattern libraries
You don't leave security and accessibility considerations until the last minute
You have a plan for browser support, integration testing, and performance budgets
You code with multiple target form factors in mind
You do the right thing even when it’s hard and treat challenges as a chance to learn
You share your honest opinions so the team can improve
You can effectively collaborate with co-workers across multiple sites and time zones
You have excellent communication and presentation skills
You have manager, senior manager or director level experience
