Job Description

The Executive Medical Director (EMD) is responsible for the overall effectiveness, leadership, strategic direction, structure and management of the medical components of hospice and palliative care at Bridge Group HH Inc., (BGHH). Provides medical direction and support to the members of the hospice interdisciplinary team to assure that patients and families receive the highest quality end of life care. Provides education to community physicians and others engaged in the care of terminally ill patients on the principles of palliative medicine and on the health care services provided by the hospice program.

Qualifications

Days (Hours are flexible), with evening/night on-call and weekend rotations Participates in the development and implementation of medical and administrative policies, procedures, and protocols to provide excellence in clinical outcomes.

Collaborates with Hospice staff and others to design, conduct, and analyze research in hospice and palliative care.

Provides leadership, strategic direction and medical oversight for the hospice and palliative care programs that results in effective planning, monitoring the quality of patient care, and appropriate resource utilization for the organization.

As a member of the executive leadership team, the EMD drives agency-wide strategy development and execution toward achievement of Bridge Group's mission and vision.

Serves as a medical spokesperson for the organization.

Assumes overall responsibility for the medical component of the patient care program.

Participates in development of in-service education and quality assurance programs.

Supervises and evaluates performance of the Hospice Physician and NP staff.

Acts as a medical liaison and provides professional education to physicians, health care providers, and other organizations or individuals with which the Hospice may interact.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MD or DO degree.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership role.
Minimum of 5 years of experience caring for patients at the end-of-life demonstrating experience in the principles of pain and symptom management
Doctor of medicine or osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school
Licensed/Ability to be licensed to practice medicine in California.
Current CA Drivers License and automobile insurance
Certified by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
Has demonstrated interest, knowledge, and skills in hospice and palliative care.
At least two years’ experience as a hospice medical director preferred.
Member or ability to come member in good standing with the medical staff of accredited hospitals in the service area
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and to motivate, lead, and provide specialized medical direction, particularly in a team setting and also in physician-to-physician relationships.
Demonstrates the ability to work compatibly as a team member in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Hospice and Palliative Care programs.
Able to provide for staff educational needs, regarding current trends and treatments in hospice care, palliative care, and pain and symptom management.
