Salary Steps as a Vacaville Police Officer :

Police Officer (Academy Graduate) : $6,453.59 / month

Police Officer (Upon successful completion of FTO program) : $7,382.78 - $8,968.53 / month

Additional Increases :

2% Increase effective November 1, 2020

A) ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A CALIFORNIA P.O.S.T. APPROVED POLICE ACADEMY AND ARE EXPECTED TO GRADUATE NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 2020, OR

B) HAVE SUCCESSFULLY GRADUATED FROM A CALIFORNIA P.O.S.T. APPROVED POLICE ACADEMY WITHIN THE LAST 3 YEARS, AND / OR

C) ARE CURRENTLY EMPLOYED IN A SWORN CAPACITY WITH A CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY BUT HAVE NOT YET COMPLETED PROBATION

The City of Vacaville is looking for highly motivated and qualified men and women who are interested in becoming Vacaville Police Officers.

The Vacaville Police Department is dedicated to providing outstanding law enforcement services to the community. The Department employs 156 full-time employees, consisting of 101 sworn positions and 55 professional support staff.

Upon completion of our FTO program, you may patrol designated areas of the City, investigate crimes against persons or property, make arrests, and enforce traffic regulations.

Responsibilities of Police Officers also include writing police reports, testifying in court, and performing other related law enforcement duties.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :

Education : Successful completion of the Police Academy is required. An A.A. / A.S. degree is desirable. Military service and relevant training may also be considered.

Experience : Some public contact work experience. Community organization or law enforcement experience is desirable.

License or Certificate :

Successful completion of a California Basic Law Enforcement Academy, or P.O.S.T. recertification course, (either dated within the preceding three (3) years), is required at time of application.

Note : Candidates currently enrolled in a California Basic Law Enforcement Academy, with an expected graduation no later than December 2020, are eligible to apply.

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Other : Police Officer candidates must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment; must be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien who has applied for citizenship;

must be able to successfully complete a thorough background investigation and successfully meet the job dimension criteria as recommended by P.O.S.T.

Spanish bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Incumbents must successfully complete the Vacaville Police Department Field Training Program as a condition of continued employment.

Physical Standards : Must be able to sit for extended periods of time; bend, twist, turn, kneel, squat, climb and reach;

lift, carry, and push / pull up to one hundred sixty-five (165) pounds; must have 20 / 70 vision in each eye, correctable to 20 / 20;

color vision and hearing ability to California P.O.S.T. standards; ability to speak well enough to be understood when transmitting information over telephone and radio;

hand and finger dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment and firearms; ability to work odd and irregular hours; to maintain attentiveness and concentration;

to perform multiple tasks concurrently; to respond to urgent matters and emergency situations; to work under inclement weather conditions, noise and other environmental factors;

overcome physical obstacles during the course of work; maintain physical fitness requirements of the position; weight in proportion to height;

and to successfully complete a pre-employment physical agility evaluation, and a comprehensive psychological and medical examination prior to appointment.
