Carpinteria Unified School District is currently searching for a Substitute Paraprofessional, an Instructional Assistant I, to serve our children during the regular school day within our Dual Language Immersion kindergarten classroom at one of our elementary school sites. Due to the nature of this classroom, you MUST be fluent in Spanish to be considered for this position.

Hours for this position will be from 7:45 am to 2:15 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 7:45 am to 1:00 pm on early-release Wednesdays. This is a substitute position that will start 4/1/19 and will run until either mid-May or the end of the school year, 6/13/19.

Instructional Assistants (IAs) help an instructor or teacher implement lesson plans by providing positive learning experiences for children. They assist in maintaining discipline by observing activities of children and maintaining order.

An IA will give each child individual and special attention each day and respond to their particular needs and characteristics, ensuring that all children receive equal attention. They will assist with attendance recording, and may contact parents concerning child's attendance.

Reports to the instructor any signs of illness or distress observed, aids in dealing with the situation as appropriate, and depending on the assigned grade level, performs a variety of child care duties such as preparing meals, facilitating rest periods, and planning and setting up learning activities.

Sets up and arranges supplies and equipment as directed.

Position requires the ability to perform in an indoors and outdoors environment. Requires near visual acuity to read and write printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speech ability for ordinary and telephonic conversation, to speak to groups, and to hear sound prompts from equipment. Requires ambulatory ability to move about office, classroom/laboratory, and school grounds, to tutor, assist with presentations, and reach work materials. Requires sufficient manual and finger dexterity to demonstrate teaching aids, to point out important words/figures to students, and to operate personal computers. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and move supplies, furniture, etc. of light-to-medium weight (under 50 lbs) on an intermittent basis.

This position requires the equivalent of a high school diploma plus experience working with students or children.
