We are recruiting for a Restaurant Manager for Cuyama Buckhorn.

Cuyama Buckhorn is an inn, restaurant, bar and coffee shop from 1952. The property was established as a roadside stop for weary travelers to enjoy a meal in good company and rest up before continuing on their journey. More than 60 years later, Cuyama Buckhorn has become a historic establishment, nestled in The Hidden Valley of Enchantment with wonderful memories for locals and travelers alike.

Business partners and architects, Ferial Sadeghian and Jeff Vance, purchased the establishment in March of 2018. The partners are working to restore and improve the property and business model, by highlighting the history of the valley and Cuyama Buckhorn; restoring the mid-century style of the property; and sourcing the food, beverage and retail offerings from local valley and neighboring city partners. The property is undergoing a full renovation, which once complete will feature a new lobby, outdoor and indoor event and meeting spaces, a pool and more.

One of the property’s most iconic elements is The Buckhorn Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant has many treasured favorites, such as the Santa Maria tri-tip grilled on the property’s cherished Red Oak grill. While The Buckhorn will always offer the nostalgic classics, the eatery is also receiving updates, including the addition of the Buck Stop Coffee Shop and a more farm-to-table focused menu. The Buckhorn team is also working on a full catering and events department with banquet menu offerings. The restaurant currently hosts events including, reunions, large birthday parties, car club lunches, and other private events.

We are looking for someone who is energetic and passionate about hospitality, who wants to help create a warm and inviting gathering place. They must be excited to push this project forward through the renovation and towards new initiatives. We will need someone who has leadership skills, is results driven and proactive. The Restaurant Manager will be collaborating in the decision-making of policies, goals, and direction of Cuyama Buckhorn and will be responsible for the successful implementation.

AS THE RESTAURANT MANAGER, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

- Managing the day-to-day restaurant operations with oversight of the entire property

- Hiring and management of all staff

- Conducting continual training to ensure that service standards are consistently met

- Providing leadership and direction to all departments

- Monitoring and controlling hotel’s P&L reporting against operational expense and labor cost guides

- Report back to owners on financial reports and any issues that may arise

- Creating ideas for the property to drive sales, improve the facility, and improve customer satisfaction

- Increasing staff engagement and morale, and improving guest experience

- Collaborating and implementing marketing and sales initiatives with owners, management and consultants

- Building positive relationships with guests, staff, suppliers, and members of the local community and strengthen The Buckhorn’s partnerships

- Being available off-hours, when necessary

- Overseeing all inventory, ordering and assisting in sourcing in alignment of the new locally sourced business model for all F&B offerings

- Assisting with the creation of SOPs, service guides, training guides, etc. and ensuring all are continually followed and enforced

QUALIFICATIONS:

- 3-4 years in a leadership role in hospitality, preferably a full-service (BLD) and bar environment

- Has been on an opening team of a restaurant / and boutique hotel, a plus!

- Good understanding of the financials in a hotel and restaurant setting

- A person that can build a collaborative team and trusting relationships

- Enthusiastic, driven, detail-oriented and strong project management skills

- Willing to relocate to Cuyama, CA or from a surrounding town/city
