GENERAL FUNCTION

Instruct the water fitness class according to guidelines established by National YMCA Water Fitness program. Orient, monitor, evaluate, motivate and build relationships with program participants.

KNOW-HOW

- Nationally recognized Water Fitness Instructor Certification.

- YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or YMCA On The Guard II certification preferred.

- Skills and abilities required to obtain the above certifications shall be maintained through out course of employment.

- CPR Pro, First Aid, Oxygen Administration Certification.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

- Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

- May require walking, light lifting, stooping, crouching, and bending.

- Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and results will be submitted to the Association Human Resources Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Will not teach a class unless a Lifeguard is on duty.

- Wear assigned uniforms.

- Be on DECK and prepared to teach 10 min. prior to scheduled class.

- Watch participants for signs of over exertion (i.e. faint, dizziness, chest pain, loss of color, etc.). Contact Lifeguard if questionable.

- Be able to execute the Emergency Procedures.

- Make announcements and distribute hand-outs to participants as directed.

- Be available before and after class to answer participants' questions.

- Assure the proper use and storage of equipment.

- Respond and follow through with all communication such as e-mail, written memos, and telephone calls.

- Attend all scheduled Water Fitness Instructor staff meetings.

- Follow YMCA guidelines and policies for substitute instructors.

- Solves problems quickly and professionally. Provides follow up as needed.

- Complete all necessary incident reports. Refer immediate problems to director or Director on Duty.

- Act as an ambassador for the YMCA through professional dress, attitude, communication and behavior. Promote the YMCA in a public forum.

- Actively build relationships and connections with and among members by using members' names and engaging members in conversation.

- Actively listen in relationship building conversations and while checking on members' progress.

- Help facilitate community building by introducing members to other staff and, when appropriate, to other members.

- Be aware of your regular members and welcome them back if they have been away.

- If a regular member stops coming without explanation notify your supervisor to discuss the best way to follow up with the member.

EFFECT ON END RESULTS

- Safe and successful operation in aquatic facility that results in no drowning.

- The interpretation of the purpose of the YMCA, its goals and objectives to the community and the continued evaluation of Branch services, continued good relations in the total community and growth in terms of members and program participants.

- The development and maintenance of good programs, public, volunteer and staff relations while maintaining the safety of the facility.

- The exercise of good judgment and competence in implementing stated needs.

- The operational success of the YMCA.
