POSITION TITLE: Verification Auditor Trainee

DEPARTMENT: Inspection and Compliance

LOCATION: State of California (Central, Desert, Southern region)

REPORTS TO: Program Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: $21.76 - $27.33 Hr. Pay Rate

The Cooperative Agricultural Support Services (CASS) is a Joint Powers Authority that was originally formed as a partnership between the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and the Counties of Yolo and Trinity. Since then CASS’ services have expanded throughout California to support the agricultural industry and the consumers of its products by providing human resources and administrative support services. CASS’ program activities include agricultural inspection, pest prevention and other programs administered by CDFA, county agricultural commissioners, and other public agencies. Our current work includes:

Agricultural Commodity Grading Program

Grading using County, State and Federal standards

Emergency Pest Detection Trapping and Survey program

Professional Develop and Educational Training

We are seeking an enthusiastic Verification Auditor Trainee to join our Inspection and Compliance Department. This position reports directly to the Program Supervisor.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under direction, as well as operating within established guidelines and procedures, the incumbent in this position works with Shipping Point staff to support Shipping Point Inspection/Food Safety programs. The incumbent in this position must have a high degree of integrity, communication skills, gathering and analysis of information, and good decision making. The incumbent will be required to attain any required certifications/licensing within first year of employment. The incumbent must also possess strong organizations skills as well as excellent verbal and written communications. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with industry; work well under pressure; and work cooperatively with other staff members in completing designated work while meeting required deadlines. Must have normal color vision. Must have a valid California Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record. Continuous travel and overnight stays are required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Audit grower and handler records to ensure compliance with an approved plan.

Complete audit checklist and note to pertinent observations.

Communicate with handler or grower representatives throughout the audit process.

Prepare fieldnotes, inspector daily reports, and other related paperwork as required.

Ensure accurate documents are forwarded in a timely manner for processing

Perform shipping point or federal inspections.

Grade agricultural commodities using federal, state or industry standards.

Maintain records of sampling and inspection or testing results; and issue certificates based upon the results of commodity grading.

Stay abreast of Food and Safety changes, trends, and regulations.

Attendance, punctuality, and dependability are essential to this position.

Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

4-year degree in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, or any science related field, or;

3 or more years of agricultural background preferred

Ability to adapt to a flexible work environment, this position requires extensive travel

Requires long periods, weeks or months, performing audits throughout the state as the season requires.

Lodging, hotel, meals per diem, mileage and travel time compensation available.

Self-Starter and proactive

Excellent Time Management and Organizational skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle conflict in a tactful and professional manner

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assumes responsibility for doing assigned work and meeting deadlines.

Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to clients including cultural and ethical beliefs; and implements care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner.

Attends work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absences and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to supervisor with respect to time-off requests.

Maintain presentable office environment including organizing office supplies, kitchen neatness and office space.

Performs other duties, as necessary.

COMPENSATION:

Full-time, Non-Exempt

$21.76 – $27.33 Hr. Pay Rate, depending on qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent in this position will be required, with or without reasonable accommodation, to operate a desktop computer using a keyboard and mouse; employ repetitive arm and wrist motions; occasionally bend, stoop, twist, reach; and, lift file or supply boxes of up to twenty pounds.
