The Cell Biology Manager is responsible for leading the efforts in cell line development, cell banking, cell culture optimization, and scaleup process development to streamline the production of current and future antibody (Ab) detection products.How will you make an impact?The Manager, Cell Biology directs and mentors a team of R&D scientists in close collaboration with Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Automation, and Software Engineering groups in R&D to evaluate and implement technologies, and to identify creative and robust solutions to overcome current technological limitations in Antibody (Ab) Detection products under the guidance of Sr. Manager and Sr. Director in R&D. This position also interfaces with Operations (particularly Antigen Production Group), Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing to ensure smooth execution of product launch and production schedule.The candidate is expected to have a broad spectrum of technical working knowledge in 1) transient and stable expression, purification, and characterization of both secreted and membrane-bound proteins; 2) stable cell line generation, characterization, and banking; 3) mammalian cell culture optimization and scaleup process development with scientific rigor in a regulatory environment. Experiences in assay development characterizing antibody-antigen interactions are highly desired. Skills in instrumentation, automation and software applications are additional assets. Scientific background and aspirations in the field of immunology, histocompatibility, and immunogenetics are critical to build the foundation for future career growth.What will you do?Generate recombinant and transformed stable cell lines
Evaluate cell line attributes to select production cell line
Manage research, master, and working cell banks
Characterize cell surface expression by flow cytometry and isolate pool or clonal populations by cell sorting
Perform transient and stable expression of soluble and membrane-bound proteins
Purify antigen (Ag) and Ab at a smaller scale
Characterize the biophysical and biochemical attributes of Ag and Ab
Develop ELISA, Luminex, and bio-layer interferometry (BLI) based assays to study antigen-antibody interactions
Evaluate expression platform including host cell, vector, medium, vessel, and protocol
Develop cell culture scaleup process up to bioreactors of 100s L capacity
Isolate genomic DNA for molecular typing
Design and construct expression plasmid
Isolate and characterize lymphocytes from human whole blood
Collaborate and support each other with the DNA & Ab (DNAb) and Serology Groups in Cell Biology
Communicate your vision and roadmap to staff, peers and superiors
Plan, organize and track work assignments for teams and individual contributors
Provide guidance and technical advice, and if needed, become actively involved including laboratory hands-on
Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and professional development of staff
Manage lab operations and lab duties including instrument purchasing, maintenance, calibration and qualification
Author and/or edit technical documents for internal and external release
Manage inventory, information and workflow that integrate the needs of both R&D and Operations.
Acquire expertise in One Lambda products, software, and instruments
Collaborate with broader TDX and Thermo Fisher Scientific community in advancing Thermo Fisher Scientific products
Implement Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System that drives profitable growth.
Perform all activities in compliance with GLP, GMP and GDP following regulatory and safety policies
How will you get here?Education / ExperiencePhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics or a related discipline in Biological Sciences AND 3 years of management experience in the development of therapeutics or diagnostics
Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesWorking knowledge of industry standards in mammalian cell culture and protein purification
Assay development characterizing antigen-antibody interaction
Software and database applications for biological sciences
Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills
Ability to multitask and manage priorities to meet company goals
Strong problem-solving skills, identifying root causes, and proposing alternative approaches and possible solutions

Preferred QualificationsExperience in membrane protein expression and purification
Experience in HLA and non-HLA antibody detection

Experience in BLI or surface plasmon resonance (SPR)
Ability in leading cross-functional teams and projects, as well as coordinating with multiple functional areas
