Title: Business Information Analyst II/Senior/Consultant
(Hiring level based on experience)

Work location: California - Walnut Creek or Woodland Hills
This position will start at work at home but will be office based once offices re-open

This Healthcare Business Information role will support Anthem's California Commercial HMO business by analyzing medical cost and utilization data and work cross-functionally to identify, assess, and track actions to address trends.

This role is part of the team whose primary objective is identifying opportunities for HMO medical groups to improve performance.

The consultant must be able to collaborate with all internal stakeholders involved in managing HMO medical group performance within the market. Employs high-level critical thinking skills, superior interpersonal communications skills, as well as a record of generating insights that support improving provider performance.

Primary duties will vary based on experience level and may include:

  • Analyze medical cost and utilization performance of medical groups; identify areas of potential improvement.
  • Review summarized data to identify contributing factors
  • Document findings; develop materials in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to describe medical cost and utilization performance and their components
  • Work cross-functionally to determine the most appropriate information source and relevant metrics
  • Make recommendations based upon data analysis, communicating findings in clear and concise terms to a variety of audiences
  • Designs data visualization methods as required to communicate performance.
  • Collaborate with provider network and clinical teams to identify anomalies in performance and develop remediation plans.


Qualifications

Business Information Consultant

  • Requires a BS/BA degree in related field; minimum of 5 years' experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Extensive analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Experience training/mentoring others
  • Experience leading presentations


Business Information Analyst Senior

  • Requires a BS/BA degree in related field
  • 3-5 years data analysis or related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.


Business Information Analyst II

  • Requires High School diploma; up to 2 years related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which provides an equivalent background. BS/BA degree preferred.


Additional requirements for all levels:

  • Analytical aptitude and investigative mindset
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel
  • Excellent listening ability, attention to detail, and communication skills in both in person and virtual settings, including the ability to translate and summarize findings, is essential
  • Quick and continuous learning style


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of health insurance and medical terminology, capitation, and health benefit features
  • Direct experience with cost/trend data at a California health plan or within a California provider organization
  • Managed Care experience with emphasis on capitated provider performance
  • Ability to interpret population health measures, what contributes to them and what drives change
  • Experience with normalization concepts/methods to compare summarized results
