Staff Accountant/Auditor
Entry Level
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated college graduate to join our team as an audit/accounting staff member primarily assigned to governmental audit engagements as well as tax preparation and various other accounting functions. There will be travel required within California, some overnight. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and demonstrate the ability to learn new concepts quickly. Proficiency in use of current technology and accounting software programs is required.
Smith & Newell CPAs is a well-established accounting firm and has been providing audit, attest, tax, and accounting services to our clients for over 30 years. We service a wide variety of industries and entities including governmental entities, privately-held businesses, and individuals. The Firm is a licensed Certified Public Accounting firm located in Yuba City, California.
Job Responsibilities
Perform accounting, auditing and other duties as needed in engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnel.
Prepare financial statements, and management letters in accordance with professional and Firm standards.
Assist with all segments of audit and accounting engagements.
Flexibility with work assignments as needed.
Research accounting issues.
Become proficient at preparing financial statements.
Assist in preparation of tax returns
Job Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting (or obtaining degree within the next 3 months); 3.5 or higher GPA in major preferred
Well-rounded knowledge of accounting principles; knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Government Auditing Standards (GAS Yellow Book) and Generally Accepted Governmental Accounting Standards (GAGAS) a plus.
Proficiency in use of current technology and accounting software programs. (Quickbooks and Microsoft Office applications)
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Working towards obtaining a CPA license is desired.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Dedication to teamwork and integrity within a professional environment.
Travel required
Salary is commensurate with work and experience.
