Position Title: Toddler Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Center Director and Assistant Director, the Toddler Teacher is responsible to ensure a safe, stimulating, engaging and developmentally appropriate educational environment. The Teacher helps to encourage creativity, foster curiosity, nurture, and inspire brain development with an enthusiasm for teaching young children. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing an ongoing heart-centered program of activities – both inside and in the outdoor classroom, that promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child enrolled in a group. In addition to classroom teaching duties; will assist in the development and implement individual educational plans and child assessments, and assist in the development, care and education of children as part of a teaching team. The Teacher is willing to fulfill the responsibilities of the position in accordance with the Early Learning Center’s philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as
their educational needs.
Utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods at ALL times.
Support the engage children in the natural world, outdoor classroom and though extensions that support holistic
approaches to wellness and health; physical, social-emotional, and spiritual.
Build children’s self-esteem through positive guidance and nurturing.
Implement positive discipline.
Observe children and documenting of progress and development.
Provide age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate experiences and activities for children, including
storytelling, games and songs.
Integrate all children, regardless of abilities, in a positive and respectful manner.
Be a positive role model for all staff and children.
Be customer service oriented and professional within a working team and organization.
Provide excellent customer service according to the philosophy of the Center and the Organization.
Be a collaborator, communicator, and positive working colleague who provides strength based support and
approaches to team members, children and families.

Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation and enthusiasm for their children.
Attend and engage in parent and community events and other events that may be on nights and/or weekends that
support the programs.
Contribute to monthly parent or community newsletters and weekly lesson plans according to the philosophy of the
programs and Center.
Immediately report any unusual incident or child absence that threatens the physical or emotional health or safety of
any child or suspected neglect, physical or psychological abuse of any kind.
Support Teacher Assistants, Interns and other staff as assigned by the Director of Assistant Director in a
collaborative and team based approach.
Implement and support developmentally appropriate and individualized daily curriculum/experiences, i.e. supported
play, nature, outdoor extensions, art, science, music, dramatic play, cooking, circle time, gross and fine motor
activities, story time, social and emotional skills, etc., as planned with the support of observation and assessment.
Assist in planning curriculum objectives and set-up/clean-up; preparing work areas, helping children to clean up
work areas, and organizing curriculum materials and supplies each day.
Establish and maintain an engaging environment for children, which is clean, safe, fun, diverse and is appropriate
for each child’s developmental level.
Assume an equal share of the general tasks, such as; housekeeping, diaper, changing/toileting support, behavior
guidance and support and snack/meal preparation.
Assist as needed in parent conferences.
Assist with documentation for children; child assessments, portfolios, behavior support plans, parent communication
and engagement, individualized education plans, etc.
Be prepared and remain knowledgeable about First Aid and assists with First Aid as needed.
Complete and file reports and follows through with environmental supports following any incident and/or accident.
Attend and participate in professional conferences and workshops to enhance position related efficiency and
knowledge, to support continuous growth and personal development, team approaches, leadership skills,
communication skills, and understanding how to work in groups effectively, etc.
Maintain high confidentiality standards at all times. Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance
of employment.
Maintain a professional self-image, and moral values that project the objectives of the Center and the Organization
at all times.
May perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Valid Associate Teacher Permit OR AA/AS degree with at least 12 core credits Early Childhood education (ECE)
and 3 credits infant/toddler emphasis. Must be willing to further education to obtain units to complete the Infant
and Toddler requirements to meet the Early Head Start mandates.
Experience:
Six (6) months of teaching experience in a licensed child care center (desirable).
Other Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age.
Must obtain and maintain a current certificate in pediatric first aid, CPR and health/safety requirements.
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
Must maintain compliance with Licensing and clear criminal clearance and child abuse index.
Must be fingerprinted and on file with licensing agency pre-employment.
Must pass a pre-employment and random drug screenings.
May be required to travel.
PHYICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be in good health to meet the requirements of a medical examination and TB clearance.
Must be able to stoop, kneel and lift a child of 60 pounds or less.
Must be able to move or lift supplies up to 60 pounds.
The noise level in this environment is moderate to loud.
