Purpose and Key Results of the Position

The Regional Farm Manager oversees day-to-day farm operations and staff on Lundberg Family Farms owned and operated Farms as directed by the Farm Manager or VP of Farm Operations. This position performs manual and skilled work in the area of rice production including, equipment set up, planting, growing, irrigating and harvesting of various crops. Additionally, the Regional Farm Manager coordinates litter procurement, cover crop production, seed procurement, collaboration with research & development, and nutrient programs. The Regional Farm Manager operates equipment as needed.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Farming Operations

• Monitor the production and harvest of various crops according to the annual Farm Plan.

• Supervise and assign work to the farm staff in coordination with the Farm Manager.

• Ensure the proper irrigation of all fields under consultation with the Farm Manager.

• Prepare data summaries, reports and analyses that include results, charts, and/or graphs to document and report findings and results.

• Oversee and assist in the proper cultivation of fields.

• Ensure that all farm personnel are fully trained to safely and effectively operate farm equipment.

• Provide the proper setup of needed equipment and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all processes and equipment. Oversee the proper repair and maintenance of all farm equipment. Ensure equipment is safely maintained.

Personnel Management

• Ensure compliance of company policies within all local, state, and federal regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA regulations and wage and hour laws.

• Assist in recruitment of seasonal labor. Ensure all seasonal labor is fully trained to safely and effectively operate farm equipment.

• Supervise direct reports to meet company needs and objectives. Encourage staff to upgrade skills. Advise and recommend personnel changes in the Area of Focus.

• Assure coordinators supervise their direct reports effectively.

• Conduct annual performance assessments as well as provide ongoing coaching and feedback.

• Draft and administer development plans and provide development opportunities.

Safety

• Adheres to safety programs in order to provide a safe and clean workplace for fellow employees within the regulations of all OSHA local, state and federal regulations.

Other

• Performs other assignments from time to time as requested by the Vice President of Farm Operations or Farm Manager to achieve department and company business goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• Strong analytical math skills.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Excellent knowledge of farm equipment operation and maintenance.

• Possess excellent supervisory and communication skills.

• Maintain a good working relationship with fellow employees and set a good example of a team player for others.

• Familiarity with irrigation systems, both surface water and wells.

• Work well under pressure. Meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• 5 years of rice or row crop farming experience

• Agricultural supervisory experience

• Must maintain a valid CA driver's license in accordance with our insurance standards

Preferred

• Organic farming experience

• A valid Class A license

• Bilingual Spanish

Work Environment

Works in an office or a similar place and outdoors, where various weather conditions are taken into account. Temperatures range from mild to moderate lows and heat with moderate background noise and mosquitoes.

Physical Requirements for Performing Essential Duties

Sitting/Standing/Walking: 90% of the time is spent standing/walking in and around work area and rice fields. Ability to drive farm equipment for an extended period of time. Ability to walk safely in flooded fields. 10% of the time is spent in an office environment seated.

Speaking/Hearing: Ability to communicate with coworkers and supervisors.

Vision: Ability to distinguish various kinds of products and differentiate various sizes, colors, and qualities of rice within the field. Ability to distinguish between rice and other plants in the field.

Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift, hold, and carry up to 50 lbs. for a short period of time and distance.

Stooping/Kneeling: Ability to stoop/kneel under various farm equipment when needed.

Reaching/Handling: Ability to reach/handle equipment when required.
