The applications will be used to select the best-qualified applicant to participate in the selection process. A skills examination may be administered to those candidates meeting the minimum qualifications. A qualifications appraisal interview will be used to assess the candidate's knowledge, skills and training experience. The Director of Public Works in conjunction with the Transit Manager will make the final selection and appointment.

ABOUT THE POSITION

To operate a transit vehicle for the transporting of passengers throughout Colusa County and to assist in the maintenance and care of the vehicles. There is currently one position available, however this recruitment may be used to fill future openings within Transit without reposting.

SALARY RANGE

$2,713 - $3,479 per month plus benefits

The hiring salary range indicated above has six steps with approximately 5% between each step. New employees normally start at step one and after satisfactory performance during a 12 month probationary period, advance to the second step. Thereafter, annual merit step increases are based upon satisfactory performance. Steps 7-15 are additional merit steps (eligibility every two years) with approximately 2.5% between each step.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance

- Possession of, or ability to obtain:

- California Class B drivers license with Passenger Endorsement

- General Public Paratransit Vehicle (GPPV) Certificate

- DOT Medical Certificate

A current California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving record printout will be required from the successful applicants upon receiving a job offer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is primarily performed in a transit vehicle transporting passengers around scheduled routes assisting passengers entering and exiting the vehicle.

-Noise level is moderate

-Hazards are minimal

-Sit for extended periods of time

-Stand, walk, and bend

-Hear and speak in person, on the telephone, and two-way radio

-Use hands and fingers to operate a transit vehicle

-See well enough to drive

-Lift and move up to 25 pounds

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Drive a transit vehicle; transport passengers throughout Colusa County; assist patrons entering and exiting the vehicle including the elderly and handicapped with wheelchairs.

Additional duties include driving passengers to other counties for Out-of-County Medical appointments.

Communicate on a two-way radio from transit vehicle.

Total and record daily manifest of patrons.

Keep vehicles neat and clean.

May perform light maintenance and troubleshooting of vehicles and equipment as required.

Answer questions and provide information to the public.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

BENEFITS

CalPERS retirement plan, either 3 @ 60 for Classic, or 2 @ 62; deferred compensation plans available with monthly matching employer contributions; paid holiday, vacation and sick leave; paid health insurance, life insurance, dental and vision insurance for employee. This position is part of the Colusa County Employees Association (CCEA), Miscellaneous Unit.
