Read CU Anschutz Quick Facts here.Nature of Work:The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus employs andrology and endocrinology lab techs to perform full-scope routine and non-routine tests and procedures with sperm and blood samples, as well as ensure the smooth operation and management of a highly specialized laboratory. Working independently or under the direction of the Laboratory Director or Medical Director, these positions are responsible for the performance of all laboratory work in the fields of andrology and endocrinology in support of the Advanced Reproductive Medicine program of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado, including our clinic sites in Colorado Springs and Denver. Role will be expected function and make decisions independently in a clinical lab setting, which includes determine which procedures are most appropriate for each patient, while also maintaining compliance with all set protocols. The position provides lab coverage in all three of our lab locations (Stapleton lab, Colorado Springs lab and IVF lab) on a rotational basis, including weekend coverage.Work in these positions is based on the fields of chemistry, physics, and biology, with special focus on reproductive biology, including andrology, embryology and endocrinology. This positions requires knowledge in this professional field as well as specific knowledge of program objectives, rules, regulations, policies and system guidelines of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) required by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), donor screening (both sperm and oocyte) regulations issued by Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Clinical Laboratory Accreditation required by Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and laboratory certification by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).Examples of Work Performed:/ /Andrology:

Adhere to andrology quality control, management and assurance programs.

Semen Analysis: Perform routine and non-routine semen analysis (SA) in accordance with protocol; ability to process “problematic” specimens, including post-vasectomy and pre-IVF semen samples, using judgement and available resources; capable of accurate result reporting.

Sperm Processing: Determine appropriate methods (gradient, wash, etc.) to separate motile sperm from seminal plasma, perform post-processing analysis and report results.

Morphology Assessment: Assess sperm morphology with Kruger’s Strict Criteria.

Anti-sperm antibody (ASA) treatment: Perform ASA treatment in samples suspected to have ASAs

Post-ejaculate urine test and processing: Perform test for routine SA and IUI preparation and report results.

Cryopreservation: Perform sperm freezing according to various SA parameters.

Endocrinology:

Adhere to endocrine quality control, management and assurance programs.

Perform routine and non-routine reproductive hormone assays using the onsite immuno-analyzer, including E2, P4, FSH, bHCG and LH.

Oversee maintenance of the analyzer by following scheduled cleaning, calibration and validation procedures.

Administration:

Manage data entry and patient record maintenance.

Maintains accurate records of all quality control activities and andrology and endocrine procedures, including patient records, quality control records, and lab procedure records.

Provide administrative assistance to clinic, including non-lab tasks, should lab schedule allow.

Participate in Proficiency Testing for both Andrology and Endocrinology skills.

Assist senior lab staff in assuring laboratory compliance for continuing CAP/CLIA certification.

Consenting of patients for lab procedures and training of patients using CU ARM dry shipper.

Coordination of shipment to and from CU ARM laboratories of sperm (both patient and donor) requiring confirmation that all samples meet CU ARM and regulatory agency standards for storage and use at CU ARM. Also requiring confirmation that appropriate consents are in place for shipment and storage of sperm samples.

Maintains competency and enhance professional growth and development through continuing education, conferences and seminars; attend and update mandatory training.

Learns and performs new techniques relevant to the ART field as necessary.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, biology or other closely related field.

One (1) year of experience working with assisted reproductive technologies.

Work on call weekends, holidays and nights on a rotational basis with other laboratory staff.

Lift, push, and/or pull up to 20 lbs.

Work in an environment that may expose you to fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, extreme cold, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.

Frequently wash your hands, as biohazardous materials may be present.

Sit and stand for long periods of time, frequently walk, and bend/stoop, as well as execute repetitive motions.

Work with complex and sharp laboratory equipment, and various chemical and biological solutions.

Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling biological samples and hazardous chemicals.

Work within a high-level secured facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a related lab environment.

Two (2) or more years of experience working with assisted reproductive technologies.

Experience using the University EMR/LIS platform, EPIC/Beaker.

Embryology experience.
