Our essential practice for engaging a person and their environment is called Basic Attendance. This is a subtle process of being with a person in their own world as an advocate, a caregiver and a friend. It involves flexibly engaging with the individual in ordinary activities of daily life and in the community around them, balancing the elements of their life activities. Awareness and understanding deepens throughout this process, and as a result the elder informs our work and we, in turn, can be of support. In this way we see the elder as teacher and at the center of the circle of support.
