Job Purpose:

This position has the responsibility to ensure that the church facilities provide a clean and safe place for worship gatherings and community events. The facility must present an image of reverence, dignity and welcome to the community.

The position will be responsible for the performance of a variety of semi-skilled and non-technical work involved in the upkeep of the building, grounds, building systems, general security, and housekeeping. Additionally, the position has overall accountability for the facility which will require management of third-party vendors and contractors from time to time.

This position reports directly to the Church Administrator, is part-time (approximately 20 hours a week), and may include occasional weekend and evening hours. Flexible time may be available.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and/or two years of experience in facility management

Can pass a criminal background check.

Licensed ability to drive a vehicle and safe driving record

Must have a reliable means of transportation

Has flexibility for on-call needs

Familiarity with occupational health and safety standards, regulations, and practices.

Ability to move and transport items up to 50 pounds without assistance

Ability to operate and maintain all standard cleaning and maintenance equipment

Has a general knowledge of building maintenance, general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and custodial skills

Comfortable working in a church environment that is open to all

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with church staff, parishioners, vendors, committees, and contractors

Commitment to following green and environmentally friendly maintenance and janitorial practices

Strong problem-solving skills

Ability to interact with others in an efficient, professional, and Christ-like manner

Responsibilities

Ensure facility and grounds are well maintained and ready for Sunday services, weekday preschool, and other mid-week events

Manage event support, including coordination and direction of room set-up and break-down and AV systems; events may include worship, church social events, outside performances and classes, weddings, memorial services, and other events typically associated with a church building

Manage janitorial work of the church including coordination and direction of outside cleaning services. May be asked to provide occasional janitorial services to supplement the work of the outside cleaning services.

Perform any lifting or moving tasks such as, setting up tables and chairs, furniture, lifting supplies and equipment

Responsible for preventative maintenance including the following:

Inspect, repair, and replace electrical switches and receptacles, light fixtures, light bulbs, etc.

Provide basic plumbing services, which include toilet maintenance, the unclogging of drains, and repairs to sprinkler systems

Inspect and repair facilities for needed repairs and improvements, as needed, such as furniture, appliances, walls, windows, ceiling tiles, stairs, and flooring as needed

Inspect and monitor the facilities for possible environmental damage such as roof leaks and gutter overflows

Monitor for pests and arrange for pest control as needed

Place and remove outside temporary signage and decor when requested

Oversee snow removal from sidewalks and parking lots and assist as needed

Ensure that the inside and outside of the building are free of trash and debris

As applicable, oversee vehicle maintenance of church vehicles

Maintain audiovisual equipment

Manage all work related to the maintenance, repair and inspection of the facility (including but not limited to building, elevator and fire extinguisher inspections; HVAC; plumbing; electrical; landscape; waste management and security), Management of this work may include personally performing the work, and/or procuring and managing volunteers or contractors—dependent upon the skill requirements

Adhere to all health, environmental and occupational safety laws, rules, and best practices, as required or recommended by law or industry standard, participating in investigations as necessary, such as regular inspections and compliance activities in accordance with approved policies and procedures, working with fire and police personnel, inspectors, and other public officials as necessary, ensuring regulatory compliance and its proper documentation.

Responsible for purchasing and maintaining cleaning, kitchen, restroom, and general maintenance supplies on an on-going basis and in accordance with the approved budget

Work with volunteer teams to manage building improvements such as assisting with the coordination of periodic volunteer workdays and the identification of jobs that can be done by volunteers

Serve as primary contact for facility-related emergencies which may require evening and weekend work

Maintain documented schedule for preventive maintenance for equipment and facilities alongside building care team (including user manuals, reference tools and warranty information)

Participate in worship and church-sponsored activities as requested and personally desired
