Job Title: Security Network Engineer/Enterprise Architect

Pay Rate:

$50/hr to $55/hr on w2 DOE

Duration: 12 Months

Location: CO - Denver, MN - Minneapolis

Description The Security Network Engineer is responsible for supporting all core and branch firewall environments within ’s enterprise network.The candidate will need to demonstrate senior-level expertise in the areas of network routing, spanning firewall, VPN, IPS/IDS, proxy, advanced threat protection, security, TCP delivery, and application flow for load distribution in load balancing. Must also have the ability to align strategies with cross-functional information technology departments to translatecomplex issues into a common business language. This candidate will have the ability to document through technical writing, train, and mentor team members while acting as a high-level escalation point for issues residing within network infrastructure.

Responsibilities• Provide senior-level technical expertise to support enterprise network infrastructure.• Provide technical assistance through training, and mentoring junior-level engineers, and/or business management.• To excel at quality internal and external customer service communication encompassing Xcel Energy’s core values.• Design, Architect, and Implement all aspects of Fortinet & Checkpoint firewalls.• Consult to internal customers regarding application instabilities, network performance problems, ideas for design improvements, EOL and hardware capacity planning.• Responsibility to provide future insights into leading edge technology in, or outside of firewall, security, or spanning space.• Responsible for participation in an on-call support rotation to ensure 24x7x365 coverage for critical core infrastructure.• Responsible for write-ups on method of procedure (MOP), standards documentation, root cause analysis (RCA), and other enterprise documentation.• Provides day-to-day operations including point of contact escalations and 0-day remediation.• Future other duties assigned as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements • 8-10 years of hands on network/security experience working in IT operations of network firewall and security appliance management• Experience with service request or ticketing system for incident, problem, and change management• Professional customer service communication skills, both written and verbal• Expert level understanding of core networking technologies that include:• Firewall Policy Management• L4-7 traffic management• TCP/IP, UDP• IDS/IPS Perimeter Security• Network Taps Core Security• OSPF, Static, EIGRP, BGP, and MPLS• Fortinet and Checkpoint• SDN• Provider-1 and FortManager• 5-10 years of production support and design of the above technologies.• 5-10 years of professional experience in network security technologies with best practices.• 2-5 years of production support for one or more of the leading security practices:• NERC CIP• HIPAA• PCI-DSS• FISMA• Expert level troubleshooting with network capture/analysis packages such as Wireshark.• 2-5 years of experience in writing design and implementation documents, Visio application flow, process documents, and customer statements such as issue write-ups.• Be able to comprehend bash, powershell, python, and other written languages that support devops mentality• Obtained and/or willing to obtain industry relevant certifications (Checkpoint R76, VPN, CCSA, or CCSE, Fortinet NSE 4 +).• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.• Ability to prioritize, organize, and be managed at macro-level.• Ability to multi-task on multiple projects simultaneously.• Ability to knowledge transfer, cross-train, or instruct when working with others.• Must be able to sustain and operate in fast-paced, team-oriented environment.• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Job Details:
  • Preferred Experience Bachelors in Computer Science/Engineering/equivalent CISSP preferred Past experiences as team lead.
  • Experience supporting enterprise, large-scale data center infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with hypervisors, and converged infrastructure 8-10 years of supporting and engineering in network firewall products line: Checkpoint (8-10 years) Fortinet (2-5 years) Experience with SIEM on alert management, and certificate management concepts Expert level understanding of DNS Advanced Knowledge of network monitoring systems (SNMPv3, Netflow, syslog, monitoring applications, MIB design, and high-speed logging) ITILv3 foundations certification, or equivalent service management experience in ITSM within operations, support, and analysis.
  • This contractor will be part of a number of projects associated to the design and engineering of a checkpoint security solution. The candidate will have extensive experience in how checkpoint technologies are used in a large enterprise environment.
  • They should also understand best practice when it comes to secure rule creation, firewall technologies, intrusion detection and prevention and packet level troubleshooting.
  • The candidate should have knowledge related checkpoint technologies including Provider-1, Signature based IPS and rule creation.
