Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Level)

About Us:

We are an AS9100-certified contract manufacturer specializing in advanced manufacturing solutions for the aerospace and defense industry. Our team blends precision engineering with innovation, supporting complex programs through superior process control, data-driven improvement, and disciplined execution. We foster a collaborative environment where engineers can apply both creative design and rigorous analytical thinking to real-world manufacturing challenges.

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in supporting and improving manufacturing operations through data-driven analysis, process development, and engineering design. This individual will work cross-functionally with production, programming, quality, and leadership teams to execute engineering projects, develop tooling and fixtures, improve process efficiency, and ensure compliance with AS9100 and customer requirements.

This is a hands-on, highly analytical position suited for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, technical environment and enjoys applying both creative and methodical approaches to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including process plans, dimensional inspection plans, test procedures, and detailed work instructions.

Create and modify routings/travelers in the company’s MRP system to ensure accurate process flow and traceability.

Lead engineering projects from initiation through completion by:

o Defining scope, objectives, and deliverables aligned with leadership goals.

o Collecting and organizing relevant production and quality data.

o Performing analytical and statistical evaluations to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

o Developing clear engineering documentation and presenting data-driven recommendations.

Engineering projects may include, but are not limited to:

1. Fixture, Test Equipment, and Automation System Design

Develop and refine concept designs and 3D models for production fixtures, test equipment, and automation systems using SolidWorks.

Perform engineering calculations and design validation to ensure mechanical integrity, repeatability, and manufacturability.

Generate detailed engineering drawings and BOM’s compliant with ASME Y14.5 standards.

Collaborate with manufacturing and inspection teams to support manufacture, assembly, and verification activities.

Manage documentation and design release processes, incorporating lessons learned and revision control.

2. Development of Numerical Tools and Process Optimization Models

Design and implement Excel-based or script-driven analytical tools to support manufacturing, engineering, and business decision-making.

Conduct data modeling and correlation analyses to understand key relationships.

Prepare reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings and enable data-driven decision-making.

Recommend and validate process adjustments or parameter optimizations to improve efficiency, consistency, and quality.

3. Process Improvement and Waste Reduction

Identify inefficient, redundant, or high-variation processes in manufacturing, inspection, or support operations.

Develop controlled test plans or experiments (DOE) to evaluate alternative methods, tooling, or technologies.

Drive implementation of validated improvements through updated documentation, training, and production rollout.

Support the company’s continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives by developing repeatable frameworks for data collection and performance tracking.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field.

Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering.

Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, design intent, and drawing generation.

Expert understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to both interpret and produce detailed engineering drawings.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, especially multi-axis machining and turning processes.

Experience with AS9100 Quality Management Systems and related documentation requirements.

Demonstrated ability to organize, plan, and execute projects independently based on objectives and data.

Excellent communication and organizational skills — able to work cross-functionally and present complex findings clearly.

Analytical, data-driven thinker with a pragmatic and results-oriented mindset.

Curious and self-motivated, with a hands-on approach to learning and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing.

Siemens NX CAD/CAM experience.

Familiarity with process optimization, lean manufacturing, or statistical analysis tools.

Experience with Python, VBA, or Excel-based automation for data analysis and engineering calculations.

Prior experience with PDM /PLM systems, and their associated methodology.

Soft Skills:

“Can-do” attitude with ownership mentality.

Superb written and verbal communication skills.

Strong attention to detail and disciplined follow-through.

Capable of balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

Comfortable navigating ambiguity and defining structure where none exists.

Collaborative and adaptable – able to communicate effectively across engineering, production, and quality teams

Why Join Us:

Be part of a team tackling complex aerospace and defense programs.

Engage in both analytical and creative engineering work.

Contribute to a continuous improvement culture that values technical depth and precision.

Work in an environment that encourages curiosity, data-driven decision-making, and innovation.
