JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for safely transporting students to and from school in accordance with federal, state, municipal and district regulations policies, and laws.

- Safely operate a vehicle to transport students to and from school, adhering to federal, state, municipal and District regulations and procedures.

- Read route directions and maps as needed.

- Maintain student control and discipline that ensures the safety of all passengers

- Monitor passengers for any medical or behavioral problems, administer First Aid and issue written reports as required.

- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required.

- Follow route directions and adhere to daily schedule.

- Report and document all accidents and or incidents.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:

- Basic ability to read and write, basic mathematical functions and the ability to tell time.

- Operating knowledge of and experience with operating motor vehicles.

- Operating knowledge of school bus, school bus emergency equipment, knowledge of the use of safety vest and other adaptive restraint systems, wheelchair lifts and tie downs.

- English language skills required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

- Commercial driver’s license (CDL).

- Completion of First Aid certification.

- Employee must maintain a clean driving record.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Five years of experience operating a motor vehicle is required. Bus driving experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS:

Must maintain emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate and respect various cultures and backgrounds, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that do not interfere with responsibilities.

COMPENSATION:

$15-$16/hour
