A Brief Overview
Responsible for providing support to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities by assisting with daily living activities in their residence and in the community. Allows for a flexible schedule by filling in for open shifts at our programs. This position may also have the opportunity for consistent hours working one-on-one (1:1) with people in services residing in our Residential Independent Living Program.
What would you do in this position?
Communicate clearly with others in a professional and respectful manner
Complete paperwork and maintain accurate records in department database according to department standards
Support with activities of daily living as needed including eating, toileting, bathing, dressing, mobility, transferring, and supervision
Administer medication accurately and complete required documentation
Transport people to a variety of locations safely
Assist with housekeeping, such as grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, and cleaning
Provide emotional and physical support as needed
Complete and pass required trainings
Assist people wither entering, seating, and exiting a vehicle
Assistance with scheduling, attending, and following up with medical appointments
Assist people with money management
Complete general light maintenance in the residential apartment or home
What education or experience would you need?
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience working with people with disabilities preferred
Valid Drivers License required
What knowledge, skills, or abilities would you need?
Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written forms
Ability to learn and assist with the use of adaptive equipment (wheelchair, shower chair, Hoyer lift, etc.)
Ability to work as a team
Analytical thinking skills to solve routine problems using common sense
Basic organization and time management skills
Ability to use a computer and a tablet
Ability to drive a large passenger van
Ability to use basic medical equipment, such as a thermometer, glucometer, blood pressure monitor, etc.
Ability to use office equipment such as fax machine, scanner, copier, phone
Basic housekeeping skills
Basic knowledge of technology such as internet browsers, email, Microsoft Word, and database systems
