Responsibilities

Collaborate with engineers and designers in high and extra high voltage substation design in order to prepare the following: General Arrangement, Electrical Equipment Plans, Section Views (Elevations), Detailed Bills of Material, Lightning Stroke Shielding Plans, Grounding Plans, Conduits, Electrical Connection and Grounding Details, Below Grade Conduit/Raceway Plans, and Control Building Equipment, Cable Tray, Lighting, Grounding Plans and Sections, and AC/DC Schematics.

Ability to specify and select substation equipment; contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling.

Other duties include understanding and adhering to client and/or company drafting standards and working individually within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electric utility substation design.

Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent technical education or be able to demonstrate 10+ years of on the job technical experience.

Experience with AutoCAD (version 2016 or newer).

Understanding of substation equipment and its function.

Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail.

Self-starter with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written to communicate effectively with internal team members and external clients.

Motivated and enthusiastic; good people skills and temperament; drive and ambition to set and reach challenging goals.

Personality to work with engineering and operational personnel at small-to-medium rural cooperatives and small-to-medium municipalities.

Demonstrated ability to work with highly technical staff and manage multiple tasks and objectives.

Confident handling of the appropriate software for design purposes.

People-oriented team player.

Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship (proper identification required).

Desired Qualifications

5+ years' progressive experience in electric utility substation design.

Experience with MicroStation (V8 or newer) a plus.

Familiarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.

Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such.

Ability to select non-engineered materials (bus, high voltage switches, cable, insulators).

Ability to provide material take-off lists such as disconnect switches, wire, conduit, HV connectors, and bus supports.

3D CAD experience is a plus.

Ability to visualize Equipment Details, Phase to Ground and Phase to Phase Clearances.

Familiarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes.

Ability to multi-task from project to project.
