The Digital Advice Technology (DAT) group manages a suite of Schwab automated investing products, including Schwab Intelligent Portfolios and Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Premium. We deliver great platforms through teamwork, innovation, and attention to quality in order bring wealth management solutions to more customers. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios is a fully automated investment advisory service with features such as goal tracking, automatic rebalancing, and tax-loss harvesting. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Premium is a hybrid advisory service that takes the benefits from Schwab Intelligent Portfolios and adds in financial planning and live credentialed professionals.

DAT is looking for a Lead Software Developer who will own the technical design phase of the SDLC to be implemented by client experience developers. These teams develop, test, and release UX new features and enhancements to the Intelligent Portfolios product offering. This position provides the opportunity to work innovatively and collaboratively with product and technology partners to execute to Schwab's vision to be the most trusted leader in investment services.

What you are good at

• Be a self-starter who partners well with others and leads by example
• Take architecture and leadership goals and translate them into detailed technical design documents that are ready for engineering teams to implement
• Work closely with Solution Architects, Product Owners, and Engineering Teams to design technology solutions that meet client and business needs
• Easily understand complex problems and come up with simple solutions
• Lead technical requirements gathering sessions and produce technical requirements and technical design documents
• Influence and socialize a technical vision and roadmap for the engineering teams by tracking and identifying new technologies to solve existing and new business problems in a practical manner
• Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with team members and stakeholders
• Design for functional and non-functional qualities, including availability, resiliency, security, performance, and privacy
• Define, socialize, and enforce design/code standards and best practices
• Provide hands-on, expert level assistance to developers on technical issues
• Suggest alternative technical solutions to meet client requirements with greater reusability, and reduced maintenance complexity
• Present designs and actively participate in architecture governance processes to ensure alignment of projects with enterprise guidance and DAT target state vision

What you have

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field
• 8+ years of software development experience, with an emphasis on back-end development
• Experience and expertise in system design
• Experience and expertise in C#, including .NET Core
• Experience designing and implementing UX features with corresponding changes in web services or micro services leveraged by multiple consumers
• Experience designing, developing, and deploying cloud-native enterprise applications in public or private cloud
• Experience designing and implementing large software systems, particularly distributed systems
• Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.
• Experience with NoSQL and SQL databases
• Experience securing interfaces and information with standards such as OAuth
• Experience implementing proof of concepts (POCs) and reviewing approaches with other leads and architects
• Superb attention to detail and pursuit of exceptional quality software solutions
• Excellent leadership skills
• Ability to effectively persuade and influence all levels of staff through strong collaboration and relationship-building skills
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) for partnering with all technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Motivation and passion to stay on top of new and emerging technologies and ability to provide direction to team on technical design and implementation approaches
• Experience deploying enterprise applications to public cloud offerings such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS or Azure is a plus
• Prior experience with trading systems or financial services experience is a plus

Colorado Compensation

Target Total Compensation - 121,000 - 201,600
