Description of JobThis work unit exists to provide inpatient psychiatric treatment for seriously emotionally dysregulated and/or cognitively impaired adolescents and adults with trauma histories that cannot be safely or adequately treated in the community. Trauma histories of patients committed to CMHIP by Colorado's criminal courts may represent barriers to eventual community release and/or resolution of their legal cases. The treatment program is designed to eliminate symptoms and behaviors of patients such as suicidality, assaultiveness, positive and negative symptoms of psychosis and depression, trauma responses, and agitation which make them a danger to themselves or others, or are gravely disabled. These patients have been screened for traumatic events that have occurred in their lifetime and may affect the way they process events and information in their lives at this time. Treatment modalities include individual, family, group work and psycho-educational treatment are provided.This position is a member of the Trauma-Informed Care Department and reports directly to the Director of Trauma-Informed Care. This position exists to provide culturally sensitive trauma-informed services including assessments, knowledge of cultural and individual factor that impact trauma processing, and theoretical and technical knowledge of evidence-based practices in trauma treatment. Practice experience providing efficacious therapeutic interventions. Individualized approaches to treatment are designed to meet the specific needs of an inpatient population, to include civil admissions and those committed to treatment by Colorado's Criminal Courts. This position evaluates the needs of our patient population, adapt treatment modalities to the population we serve, and initiate therapeutic interventions in an inpatient setting. Trauma treatment providers are members of a multidisciplinary treatment team. This position requires ongoing communication with unit staff to ensure continued appropriate levels of treatment during the patients hospital stay. Professionals in this position are expected to provide training and consultation to hospital staff across clinical disciplines. Each professional is responsible for possessing and maintaining the required licensure and certifications as required by this position.Job Duties:

Provide assessments and group, individual, and family therapy utilizing trauma- informed theoretical framework and methods along with SAMHSA standards, taking into consideration ethnic, cultural, religious and sexual diversity. Creating protocols for treatment groups based on recognized evidence-based theoretical principles that encourage integration of multisensory/multidisciplinary approaches to support treatment of trauma issues.

Keeps updated to state of the art evidence-based theories of assessment and treatment interventions patient's with histories of trauma, and with some frequency, for the patient dually diagnosed with substance related disorders. Outcome data is used to assess effectiveness of treatment interventions. Attends clinical supervision and obtains professional development hours in order to keep license in good standing. If pursuing licensure or certification, for the first time, personally monitor training requirements and work with supervisors to make sure requirements are maintained.

Monitor and maintain hospital training requirements outlined by CMHIP Staff Education. Individuals are expected to maintain required records of training to include placing certificates in the black Staff Education notebook, as well updating the training log contained in the aforementioned notebook.

Participates in the direction and formulation of treatment plans and reviews. Collaborates with multidisciplinary treatment team by recommending and designing treatment interventions to include direct patient treatment, family education, and therapeutic needs. Written or typed documentation of above.

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This position requires working with and managing emotionally disturbed youth and adult psychiatric patients, and patients with alcohol and substance abuse addictions.

This position requires working in unlocked and locked units with potentially dangerous patients.

This position requires you work with assaultive behaviors and have the skills needed to manage patients who display these types of behaviors. All candidates must successfully complete the physical, written, and oral components of mandatory orientation.

Minimum Qualifications:Current, valid licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) from the Colorado State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners or current, valid licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) from the Colorado State Board of Social Work Examiners.Substitutions:Current, valid licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) from the Colorado StateBoard of Marriage and Family Therapist Examiners will substitute for the Professional Counseling license (LPC) or the Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW).Special Qualifications:Clinicians hired for this position must have foundational understanding of principles of Trauma-Informed Care and the ability to initiate therapeutic interventions, evaluate the needs of the patients and adapt treatment modalities to the population being served.Conditions of Employment:

A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges. Additionally, you will be required take a drug screen.

Must possess and maintain required professional license as required by the Social Work/Counselor classification.

Shift Work – may be required to work holidays, weekends, and evenings. This position provides an evening treatment group or structured treatment activity weekly.
