The Center for Disabilities (dba Center Toward Self-Reliance) is seeking to hire the right candidate to run the low vision services program at our agency. This person will work with individuals having visual disabilities to assist them in living as independently as possible in the community of their choice. This will entail implementing both group and individual services to those in need of this assistance. As such this person will interface with a number of different community agencies, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, the local Area Agencies on Aging, as well as medical professionals providing services to individuals having visual anomalies. Since the Center Toward Self-Reliance covers not only the Pueblo area, but also 17 counties in southeastern Colorado, the person who is hired for this position, may be called upon to travel (with some overnight stays possible) to other counties for which the Center assumes responsibility. Furthermore, the person hired will be expected to conduct consistent outreach into the communities in which our agency serves. In addition to these responsibilities, the person hired for this position will be required to obtain training in orientation and mobility (a graduate level endeavor) for which the agency will provide funding. A minimum of a B.A. is required for applicants.
