Local (plant) nursery is seeking applicants to work in an inside sales position (office) and/or a retail sales position (store). Both positions entail assisting customers with purchasing plant materials, and a professional demeanor in person, on the phone and via e-mail is essential. For both positions prior experience with the nursery, garden center or landscaping industry is a plus, as well as prior experience with Quickbooks accounting software. Both positions are seasonal by nature and hours may vary to somewhat less than full-time depending on business needs and the progress of the season.
Inside Sales (office): This is a Monday Friday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. position. The inside sales person will answer phones in a busy office setting and staff the front desk station to greet and interact with customers, employees and vendors (Spanish can be a plus for this position!). Responsibilities will include: Taking orders from wholesale customers by phone and email and entering them correctly into Quickbooks; Taking payments from customers; Performing inventory and customer account research tasks; General office duties (mail, fax, filing, etc.); and other duties as required. Experience with MS Office (especially Excel) is highly desired. This position will also involve leaving the office at times to verify inventory and problem solve in the nursery yard and greenhouses, and to occasionally assist with the care of growing plants. Compensation will be highly dependent upon experience as knowledge of plant materials will be an important factor for success in this position, but we will consider training the right person to grow into the position. (Must like dogs but must love the office cat!).
Retail Sales (store): The days for this position will vary, with some weekend days required. The hours too will vary somewhat but will generally be for 8 or 9 a.m. until 4 or 5 p.m. Customer service responsibilities will include assisting customers with finding plants and products, acting as a cashier, and assisting customers with loading their purchases. As cashier you will need to record customers purchases accurately in Quickbooks and take payments via card, check or cash. Additionally, this position will require you to care for the growing plants in our retail space by watering them as needed and monitoring them for health, wellness, and presentability, etc. Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. occasionally and to work on your feet for most of your shift is required. Previous customer service or retail experience is desirable and professionalism under pressure is a must! This is a good fit for a person that enjoys spending some time outside. Compensation will be highly dependent upon experience as knowledge of plant materials will be an important factor for success in this position, but we will consider training the right person to grow into the position.
