About Our School:

The mission of Covenant Preparatory School is to provide young men from underserved communities in Hartford the foundation required to successfully pursue higher education, to develop the strength of their character, and to inspire them to live with integrity as leaders committed to their communities.

About The Role:

Covenant Preparatory School is currently seeking candidates with interest in teaching across the curriculum in 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grades. Content areas may include Social Studies, Mathematics, Public Speaking, Health and/or Physical Education.

AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows are asked to commit to a two-year fellowship intended to develop their knowledge and skills as an educator.

AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows, coached by a team leader, report directly to the Principal and are also under the supervision of the Head of School. AmeriCorps Teaching Fellows will undergo an annual professional performance review process, including an increased number of classroom observations intended to support, encourage, and develop the teacher.

In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, teachers participate in the schools advisory, athletics/activities, and service programs as well as performing other tasks and duties pertinent to the operation of the School.

What youll receive:

- Free housing in a school-managed townhouse with other AmeriCorps teaching fellows.

- Stipend of $600 per month in first year and $800 per month in second year, subject to taxes.

- $125 meal stipend per month.

- School-provided health insurance.

- AmeriCorps education award of $5,000 annually at the end of each year of service.

Qualifications needed:

- A firm commitment to the Covenant Preparatory School mission

- A bachelors degree (all majors welcome, teaching certificate not required)

- A desire to work in a high-energy educational environment that values flexibility and strong, positive relationships with students and their families

- Experience working with middle grades youth (grades 5-8)

- A willingness to contribute to all aspects of school life

- Bilingual in English and Spanish (strongly desired, not required)
